Week 3 in the Catawba River Region presents a rivalry showdown, two teams that desperately need a win and a game that will be full of athletes all over the field on the south side of Rock Hill.

Chester (3-0) at South Pointe (2-1)

This game has been circled on the calendar for many when the 2023 schedules started coming out during the offseason. Chester is coming off a 24-0 win of Fairfield Central last Friday night, and they did it with an impressive defensive performance led by [player_tooltip player_id='771062' first='Reggie' last='Heath'] and DJ Stevenson – the duo each recorded one interception last week. [player_tooltip player_id='816734' first='Terry' last='Radford'] on the defensive line will look to cause problems in the trenches.

Keep an eye out for [player_tooltip player_id='997385' first='Elijah' last='Coleman'] (pictured above), who ran hard in between the tackles last week against the Griffins. [player_tooltip player_id='771035' first='Kyan' last='Kennedy'] is a favorite target for Cyclones QB [player_tooltip player_id='457973' first='Trooper' last='Floyd'] who ignited Victor Floyd's offense in the second half.

South Pointe returns to District 3 South Stadium after a close 27-21 to Gaffney at The Reservation. Look for the Stallions to give it to [player_tooltip player_id='1012612' first='Aidan' last='Turner'], who scored two touchdowns, including a 41-yard scamper. Mason Pickett-Hicks scored on a hook and lateral play to keep them within striking distance late. [player_tooltip player_id='139304' first='Chris' last='Dixon'] and Fred Reese in the secondary will be guys to watch on the Stallions defensively.

York (2-0) at Clover (0-2)

It's a rivalry showdown in northwestern York County on Friday.

The Cougars have gotten off to a solid start with wins over Union County and Nation Ford. And a lot of that has to do with the play of Triston Barnett, who is quickly turning into a dual threat as he ran for over 100+ yards last week against the Yellow Jackets. [player_tooltip player_id='267449' first='Debo' last='Hall'] will be the leader on defense to look out for as he can come up in run support and drill the ball carrier or he plays center field well to where he can read and react to pass plays in the air.

Keep an eye out for Najib Yunsah on the defensive line along with Javarus Gutherie, who scored a touchdown last week and can burn you with his speed.

Clover's 2023 season has gotten off to a rocky start with losses to Northwestern and Hillcrest. But they'll have a chance to right the ship against their rivals separated by eight miles. Isaac Allen had four catches for 45 yards last week and is the leading receiver for the Blue Eagles currently. Look for coach Perry Woolbright's squad to run the ball with [player_tooltip player_id='1012627' first='Landon' last='Stone'] early and often. He has run for 245 yards in the first two weeks. Keep an eye on [player_tooltip player_id='995603' first='Brody' last='Rowan'] and Noah Falls, who each registered 3 solo tackles last week.

Lamar (1-2) at Andrew Jackson (0-2)

Both teams need a win and have lost two straight. Lamar quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1165108' first='Zori' last='Pierce'] has been sidelined with an injury the last few weeks, and he brings the athletic ability at the position that is needed for the Silver Foxes. His status for Friday night is unknown. Look for Michael McFadden to be one of the leaders on offense. He ran for 98 yards on 24 carries in a loss to Airport last week.

[player_tooltip player_id='317140' first='Trey' last='Thompson'] is the straw that stirs the drink for the Volunteers offensively. But can he find room against the Lamar defensive front led by Freddy Cruz, who has 8.5 tackles per game and [player_tooltip player_id='997292' first='Tavis' last='Dolford'], who has 5.5 tackles per game.
