Most of these performances come from posts on my Week 2 Stats/Highlights Tweet!
Connor Brown | Lapeer | 2024
Stats: 9 rec, 166yds, D- 1INT, 3PBU
If this film doesn’t put Connor Brown on the map, then I don’t know what will! Watch the film, because it’s impressive on both sides of the ball. His first few offensive highlights show two great touchdown catches. The second one in particular demonstrates exceptional concentration, bringing the ball down after the DB made a great play getting a hand on the ball. Several other receptions show great explosiveness and open-field ability on hitch / other short routes. Connor’s feet are incredibly quick and he’s great at making a move and heading upfield. Based off the film below he’s a very well-rounded receiver who deserves quite a bit of college attention- D2 or maybe even MAC is my early impression.
Connor also has several great plays on the defensive side of the ball. Even though he has 1 interception, there are several other plays where Connor had a chance to pick a ball off. He had a great instinctual play on the ball at 1:48 that would have been an amazing pick. 2:12 is his interception, while the play before looked like another interception. Love this film and I’m really looking forward to watching more film of Connor soon.
RB/MLB | Michael Bethune Michael Bethune 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Summit Academy | 2024 State MI | Summit Academy | 2024
Stats: 200yds, 5TDs, 6Tkls, 1 Sack
Bethune had a career day against Detroit Renaissance. As you can tell from the stat line, Michael was all over the field making plays left and right. Offensively, he served as a phenomenal power back. His first few touchdowns on film show hard-nosed between the tackles running oftentimes capped off by a touchdown. On O, I’d love to see a bit more speed, but I like his current instincts and contact balance. Defensively Michael proved to be instinctual on a few occasions, resulting in his 6 tackles and sack.
RB/TE/LB | Karter Schmitt Karter Schmitt 5'11" | 195 lbs | LB Ogemaw Heights Highschool | 2024 MI | Ogemaw Heights | 2024
Stats: 26 Carries, 191yds, 4TDs, 4Rec, 108yds, 1TD, 6tkls, 1FF, 1 Sack
This is one of those legendary performances that the OPPONENT will never forget. Just look at those stats! Karter took over on both sides of the ball, earning 299 AP yards on offense, 5 TDs, 1 Sack, 1FF, and 6 tackles. As a running back, Karter was able to bounce off several tackles on his way to explosive gains. Trucking, stiff arm, etc, he was hitting hard. He also has quite a few great blocks on tape which doesn’t reflect on the statline. Karter also played quite a bit of TE, and that’s where his receiving yards come from. Although too small to be a college TE, he looked fast and aggressive on tape here.
Now onto defense. The first highlight you’ll see below is a great hit stick on the running back, forcing him to cough up the football. His sack at 1:10 comes from a nicely-timed blitz in addition to a broken play. There’s some obvious passion and talent here, so I would not be surprised if a DIII program took a look at Karter!
RB/LB | Nolan Vis Nolan Vis 5'11" | 205 lbs | ATH Unity Christian | 2025 State MI | Unity Christian | 2025
Stats: 111yds, 1TD, 18tkls
Nolan has already proven to be one of the most fun players to watch in the entire OK Conference. Against Oakridge, he proved to be a dominating force on both sides of the ball. His first highlight is where the majority of his rushing yards come from as he exploded through a hole set up by great blocks leading to an 85-yard touchdown. Another run at the 0:41 mark impressively demonstrates Nolan’s vision, patience, and explosiveness as he turned what could have been a 3-yard gain to a 12-yard gain. The 18 tackles on defense are impossible to ignore as well. At his off-ball linebacker position, Nolan diagnosed several plays and held the defense to short yardage several times. Now heading into league play, it will be fun to see what Nolan Vis Nolan Vis 5'11" | 205 lbs | ATH Unity Christian | 2025 State MI and this whole UC team is able to do!
LB/H-Back | Jalen Edwards | Davison | 2024
Stats: 10tkls, 3Pressure, 2rec, 34yds, 2TDs
Jalen was not someone who was close on my radar when I went to Davison for this game. Though his film shows he’s a guy I should have watched more of. #10 was easy to identify as the other LB playing alongside Herriman, and I do remember him being apart of several great defensive efforts. The film shows great aggressiveness and power as he swarmed the Grandville offense. There are a few plays in particular where he stops the opposing ballcarrier dead in his tracks, even against some skilled ballcarries used to falling forward. Offensively, he only has two highlights, but those two highlights are dang impressive. His first touchdown comes from a great route to the flat, where he meets a late linebacker who he shrugs off, then takes it 30-yards after the catch to the house. His second touchdown came from the same route, but this time at the goal line.
