With that being said, I’m going to focus on my top performers on both sides of the ball in each class from so far. To kick things off, here are my mid-season top performers in class 6A on the offensive side of the ball.
Durelle Loggins Jr
Durelle Loggins Jr
Through his first five games this season, Durelle Loggins Jr is the leading passer in 6A. The sophomore quarterback has completed 72/131 passes for 1,271 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Loggins has shown impressive ball placement with his passes, showing the ability to fit the ball into tight windows where only his intended receiver can catch it. He has also shown the arm strength to stretch the field in the deep passing game. Loggins has also shown that he can tuck the ball and make plays with his legs when needed, scoring one rushing touchdown so far. Durelle doesn’t currently hold any offers but he will be a player to watch as he continues to develop over the next few seasons.
Ethan Teall Ethan Teall 6’6″ | 200 lbs | QB Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2024 State KY is another quarterback that has stood out to me so far this season. Through six games, Teall has completed 89/159 passes for 1,238 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions. Teall has a cannon for an arm which he uses to lead his receivers down the field in the deep passing game. He also puts a good amount of touch on his passes, showing the ability to put the ball where only his intended receiver has a chance to catch it. Ethan also has some dual-threat ability as he has carried the ball 41 times for 67 yards and four touchdowns so far. Teall doesn’t currently hold any offers but I expect some to come his way soon as he has received some college interest and has the talent to play quarterback somewhere at the next level.
Maddox O’Neal Maddox O’Neal 6’1″ | 160 lbs | QB KY is another young quarterback that has impressed in a big way this season. Through his first six games, O’Neal has completed 96/152 passes for 1,203 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Maddox throws an impressive deep ball, showing the ability to lead his receivers down the field away from opposing defensive backs. He also puts a good amount of zip on his passes showing the ability to fit the ball into tight windows. O’Neal also has one rushing touchdown on the seasons. Maddox doesn’t currently hold any offers but he should definitely be a player to keep an eye on over the next few seasons.
Highlights
Jack Zwernemann
Jack Zwernemann
The final 6A quarterback that makes this list is Jack Zwernemann. He has been very impressive in his first season as the starting quarterback, completing 62/116 passes for 943 yards,13 touchdowns, and four interceptions through the first five games. Zwernemann does a great job of escaping pressure while keeping his eyes down the field to make tough throws on the run. He also has a good amount of touch on his passes, showing the ability to put the ball where only his intended receiver can catch it. Jack is also very dangerous as a runner as he currently leads his team in rushing with 63 carries for 390 yards and four touchdowns. Zwernemann currently holds an offer from Thomas More and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play at the next level.
Through his first five games this season, Durrell Turner Durrell Turner 5’7″ | 165 lbs | RB Simon Kenton | 2025 State KY is the leading rusher in 6A. So far, Turner has carried the ball 93 times for 800 yards and eight touchdowns. Turner has impressive vision, showing the ability to find the open running quickly and hit it with a sense of urgency. Once he gets to the second level, Turner has the speed to run away from the defense on long runs. Turner doesn’t currently hold any offers but he should be a player to keep an eye on over the next couple seasons.
Another running back that has stood out on a regular basis this season is Mykel Malone Mykel Malone 5’11” | 190 lbs | RB Fern Creek | 2024 State KY . Through his first five games, Malone has carried the ball 81 times for 757 yards and 11 touchdowns. Malone is a physical, downhill runner that has shown the contact balance to break tackles without losing stride. Once he hits the open field, Malone has shown that he also has the elusiveness to make defenders miss. Mykel doesn’t currently hold any offers but I expect some to come his way eventually as he has the talent to be a productive ball carrier at the next level.
Shaun Boykins Shaun Boykins 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR North Hardin | 2024 State KY has continued to prove that he is one of the best players in the state this season. Through five games, he leads 6A in receiving with 41 catches for 698 yards and nine touchdowns. He is a very dangerous deep threat as he is able to use his speed to blow by opposing defensive backs. Boykins is also very dangerous after the catch as he has the speed and elusiveness to turn short passes and screens into big gains at any given moment. He also has one rushing touchdown on the season. Boykins is committed to Louisville where I can see him developing into a key piece of their offense when he gets there.
Another senior receiver that has continued to impress this season is Traevon Berry Traevon Berry 6’3″ | 185 lbs | WR Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2024 State KY . Through his first six games, Berry has caught 39 passes for 557 yards and five touchdowns. Berry is a long, athletic wide receiver that is able to use his long strides to create separation in the deep passing game. He also is an impressive route runner and has a high catch radius, which makes him very dangerous in contested catch situations. Berry currently holds offers from Wright State, Otterbein, and Coahoma Community College, and I expect more to come his way as he has received a solid amount of college interest and has the talent to play at the next level.
Max Gainey Max Gainey 5’9″ | 155 lbs | WR Louisville Male | 2024 State KY is another receiver that has continuously showed that he is one of the best in the state at his position. Through five games, Gainey has caught 17 passes for 330 yards and a touchdown. Gainey is a very impressive route runner, showing the ability to use smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. He has also proven that he has the speed to pose as a dangerous deep threat. Gainey is also electric after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness for turn short passes into big gains. Max has also scored one rushing touchdown and returned one punt for a touchdown this season. Gainey currently holds an offer from Purdue and I expect more to come his way as he is a true Power 5 caliber wide receiver prospect.
To wrap up this list, I have receiver Jeremiah Lynn Jeremiah Lynn 5’11” | 190 lbs | WR Trinity | 2025 State KY from Trinity. Lynn has been having a breakout year through the first six games, catching 33 passes for 470 yards and six touchdowns. He is a dangerous deep threat on the outside where he is able to use his speed to blow by opposing defensive backs. Lynn is also dangerous after the catch as he has shown the ability turn up the field and run away from the defense to turn short passes into big gains. Jeremiah doesn’t currently hold any offers but I expect college coaches to be keeping an eye on him as his role in the Trinity offense continues to grow.
