On Friday, he topped that in the rematch at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
The Camden senior piled up five touchdowns (three rushing, two passing) to headline a dominant Bulldogs’ season opener. Yeah, it’s safe to say he’s no longer a defensive lineman masquerading as a quarterback.
“It’s really important to let them know this team’s the real deal,” White said. “I can do it. I can play at the highest levels. I can play in state championship game. I’m excited to see this season [play] out.”
White, a former defensive end, was converted to the quarterback position as a freshman and then took the job over for good during his sophomore season. He posted decent numbers that year (1,248 passing yards, 654 rushing, 19 total touchdowns) before going for 2,157 passing, 919 rushing and 32 scores as a junior.
This year, he’s looking for more.
Against the Seahawks, the 6-foot, 240-pound quarterback looked even more like a pocket passer who could run when he needed to. He threw for 305 yards and two long touchdowns and rushed for 41 yards and those three rushing scores.
Yes, White will still pitch in on the defensive line from time to time, thanks to some low numbers in the trenches – and he almost recorded a sack in the second quarter. However, he’s clearly got the goods at quarterback to put him into elite company this year.
His build allowed him to break tackles in the backfield – he wasn’t sacked one despite being hit plenty – and push the pile on those short goal-line touchdowns. The only knock on his game Friday was a late interception on a deep ball when the game was well in hand and that that it took him some time in the opening minutes to get cranking.
Despite Camden’s defense picking off three first-quarter passes, Camden didn’t score until after the third.
“When your defense gets turnover after turnover after turnover and you can’t capitalize on that for them, it’s tough,” White said. “We focused on sudden change a lot in practice. This was the first game and people were still getting used to it to new linemen. We had a fumble and couldn’t convert. After those two or three bad series, we went on a rampage.”
That’s sort of putting it lightly.
The total effort from White and his teammates pushed a scoreless first quarter to a 30-0 halftime lead.
MORE BULLDOG STANDOUTS
While Jaquarius Mayrant Jaquarius Mayrant 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Camden | 2024 State SC had five receptions for 81 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, and Aidan Heriot Aidan Heriot 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Camden | 2024 State SC caught two balls for 114 yards and a score, the next most impressive Bulldogs against Myrtle Beach were on the other side of the ball.
Defensive back Jordan Crim Jordan Crim 6'1" | 160 lbs | DB Camden | 2025 State SC ‘s first interception of the night ended the Seahawks’ opening drive. He stepped in front of a Gibson Goodroe Gibson Goodroe 5'10" | 170 lbs | QB Myrtle Beach | 2025 State SC pass in the end zone and returned it all the way to the other side of the field before being tackled.
On the very next drive, it was Crim again, as he ended a second drive with another pick.
His teammate, Emmanuel Prisbot, made it three Camden interceptions in as many drives when he made a diving snag off a tipped ball with a little over three minutes to go in the opening quarter.
The turnover parade wasn’t done yet.
Just before half, with Camden leading 22-0 and Myrtle Beach looking to just drain the final 90 seconds to head to the locker room, the Bulldogs forced a fumble and Wyatt Thompson scooped it up and returned it 31 yards for a defensive score.
The Seahawks got the ball back one more time, and it ended much like the others. Goodroe, a first-time starting quarterback who played only baseball last year, was picked off in the end zone by Camden’s Tylin Drakeford Tylin Drakeford 5'10" | 175 lbs | DB Camden | 2026 State SC .
Tack on a huge tackle night from linebacker Wilson Nash Wilson Nash 6'0" | 190 lbs | LB Camden | 2024 State SC – who was playing in front of a large contingent of extended family members who live in the area – and Camden reminded everyone how good it could be.
