Rankings are set to be updated next week, but before then, I wanted to share a few names that have been trending up since the early June update. These players have had great summers and followed them up with solid week 1 performances.
You’re going to want to jump on these guys early.
Orion Parker Orion Parker 6'7" | 265 lbs | OL Plattsmouth | 2024 State NE | 2024 | OL | Plattsmouth | 6’7″ 265 lbs
One of the biggest risers of the summer, Orion Parker Orion Parker 6'7" | 265 lbs | OL Plattsmouth | 2024 State NE is a player who set himself up for a nice rise in the rankings with an excellent camp circuit. We had a somewhat limited sample to go off of when he was added back in June with the hopes of seeing him in person throughout the summer. Parker really impressed in July at the Peru State camp where he flashed his potential on both the offensive and defensive line. What really impressed me about Orion was his athleticism, flexibility, and quickness… all clearly stemming from his solid wrestling background. He then proceeded to display a high level of physicality in 1v1 drills. Since then he has continued to impress in clips from prospect and team camps, picking up offers from Morningside, Fort Hays, Midland, Peru State, and Wayne State. Orion looks even smoother with his mobility after a great offseason.
Able Molina Able Molina 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Kearney | 2024 State NE | 2024 | RB | Kearney | 5’9″ 165 lbs
It’s time to take Kearney’s Able Molina Able Molina 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Kearney | 2024 State NE off the watchlist and onto the rankings. Able is a player who has been on the fringe of making that jump, but we just needed more tape to get a better read on his play. After a big season-opening performance against a tough Lincoln East team, he’s definitely earned it. The play that really stood out to me was the first in Able’s week 1 highlights. Able took the handoff up the middle, exploded through his lane, and broke away using his deceptive speed. Molina also showed nice balance and toughness to power through tackle attempts. In one game, Able has nearly reached his rushing total from last year (136) with 114 yards and a touchdown on the ground. I’m buying Able to trend upwards this season!
Javonte Walker Javonte Walker 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Millard South | 2024 State NE | 2024 | DB | Millard South | 6’0″ 180 lbs
An unfortunate injury sidelined Javonte for much of his junior season, but has since been on a tear in 7v7 competition. I got to watch Walker compete with the Soldier Boyz and Millard South 7v7 several times this season with Javonte impressing at each stop. The biggest takeaway from his game is how physical he likes to be with receivers. Whether at the line or when the ball is in play, Javonte embraces bringing a fight to his opponent on every rep. Now fully healthy, Javonte is going to be a big part of Millard South’s defensive success this season.
Trent Lavicky Trent Lavicky 5'9" | 175 lbs | DB Papillion-La Vista | 2024 State NE | 2024 | LB/ATH | Papillion-La Vista | 5’10” 175 lbs
Linebacker Trent Lavicky Trent Lavicky 5'9" | 175 lbs | DB Papillion-La Vista | 2024 State NE is one of the more under-the-radar prospects on a very talented Monarchs squad. At a practice I attended earlier this month, Trent was consistently near the ball making a play. On top of that, he also proved to be a vocal leader on the defense and encouraged a lot of the younger players. Although, Trent would be seen as “undersized” there’s nothing undersized about the way he can blow up backs in 1v1 situations. He’s a very smart player that can pick up on keys early and react to them quickly.
