Coach Nesbitt will have a good group of returning players along with some talented newcomers and freshman to look for in 2023.
At quarterback, 6’3″ senior Adrian Fox returns after throwing for 650 yards and 6 touchdowns in 8 games as a junior. The athletic Fox is one of the top QBs in the 2024 Missouri class. He can beat you with both his arms and legs, and he also ran for over 300 yards and 4 more touchdowns last season. Adrian has done a good job training in the offseason and displayed a strong, accurate arm when I have seen him. Look for a big season and some college interest to follow if he has the year I believe he will.
The run game will be led by freshman running back Jaylon Hampton Jaylon Hampton 5'7" | 165 lbs | RB Jackson | 2027 MO (5’7″ 145) who Coach Nesbitt describes as a special player who will start from game one. Hampton looks to have quick feet, good speed, vision and change of direction ability.
Big play junior receiver Kai Crowe Kai Crowe 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Jackson | 2025 State MO (6’1″ 180) returns after having a very good offseason and showing his explosive athletic and pass catching ability at camps and combines. Crowe looks like he will be a reliable go to target for Fox in the passing game, and is a name to watch for colleges. Look for 6’4″ senior Blayne Harris and and speedy junior Gavin Alspaugh Gavin Alspaugh 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Jackson | 2025 State MO (6’1″ 180) to be a big part of the receiving corps. Freshman Evan Turley (5’7″ 150 )will also see playing time this season. Senior David Wilburn will play TE.
The offensive line will be led by senior Zane Coon Zane Coon 6'3" | 295 lbs | OL Jackson | 2024 State MO (6’3″ 300), who had a dominant junior year and was recruited by many schools before deciding to stay home and commit to Southeast Missouri. Coon is a powerful and skills offensive lineman, who can play anywhere along the OL. He excels equally with his run blocking as well as pass pro and is a good athlete. Juniors Grant Lindsley and Jesse Keller along with Sophomore Brysen Wessell will join him as starters along the O-line.
The defensive line returns key players in seniors DE Hayden Wessell (6’0″ 225), DE Trenton Rollet (6’3′ 240), NG Reid Landers (6’0″ 265) and Cole Foltz (6’1″ 190) who will step up along the defensive front.
The linebacking corps will be led by senior returnees Fisher Stevens (5’8″ 165 ) and Peyton Klund (5’7″ 16 ). They will be joined by newcomers in junior Marcus Cutsinger (5’9″ 196 ) and sophomore Boyd Langford.
The Indians have some talented experience back at defensive back in speedy senior cornerback TJ Altenthal ( 6’0″ 165), who ran a 4.7 laser forty at Lindenwood camp back in June, and talented safety Gavin Guilliams. Juniors Tyson Ford and Cole Geiser will join them, and watch for speedy freshman Blayne Reagan (5’11” 165) to rotate at one of the corner spots.
