Both squads are looking to get back to Ford Field and finish the job, and this game showed that hunger! Let’s take a look at some of the best offensive players on the field Friday afternoon!
This guy was absolutely a gamechanger for Goodrich. They needed his leadership and athleticism, and they got it! He was able to get north and south and didn’t dance much at all. He showed some awesome athleticism making guys miss in the open field, and was a huge part of their game winning drive until he was hurt with about 8 seconds to go in the game. Still, he showed a ton of grit all game, and as long as he is able to get back on the field with no lasting injury to speak of, he’s going to be a huge reason why the Martians are able to make another huge playoff run!
Highlights
Easton Phipps
Easton Phipps
This guy does anything. He’s a stout middle linebacker, he can run the ball, play QB. Anything you need him to do, he’s got it covered. Easton was a tough guy to stop all day long. It was tough against an elite Frankenmuth defense, but he was able to sling the ball around, and was able to do damage on the ground. He had a bunch of plays where he just refused to go down and it took a gang of tacklers to get him to the ground. He really impressed me with the fact that he was always around the ball, offensively or defensively. Easton is just a playmaker by nature.
Chase was the man that stepped up HUGE when they needed it most. When his teammate Max Macklem went down with his injury, his coaches called his number to tote the rock with less than 15 seconds to go. Chase did exactly what he needed to do, bouncing off tacklers en route to the go ahead TD, which ended up deciding the game! He had been a big piece all day, but it really stood out to me that his coaches called him to get it done when it was crunch time. Coaches clearly trust this guy, and I see no reason not to! Chase had been good running and catching all day long, and that took pressure off guys like Max and Easton all day long and let them run free.
Jack Rich
Jack Rich
Jack is a gamer. He always came up with big plays in the clutch to keep his team in it. He had a bigger arm than I expected, which I should have known better since he is an elite baseball prospect as well. He seemed to make the right play more often than not, and he always kept his eyes downfield even when he was rushed. I was really impressed with the way Jack stepped up and seemed to be a leader for his teammates when it got tough. I expect Jack to have an awesome season this year, and I hope I can catch him in action again soon.
Griffin Barker
Griffin Barker
This dude was a workhorse for Frankenmuth. He runs extremely hard, and refused to go down on first contact. It was super impressive to see the way he could make guys miss, and then take the next defender head on and run them over. He was a first down getter all game long for Frankenmuth, and at times you could tell he was wearing out the opponents defense. I think this team will go really far again this year, and Barker will absolutely be a reason why. He’s gonna have some big numbers this season.
