Below are the winners of the Class B State champion, Player of the Year, Offensive & Defensive Players of the Year, and Offensive Lineman of the Year Preseason polls. We will check back in at the season’s end to determine how close you were to predicting the winners.
Class B State Champion
Winner: Scottsbluff – 130 votes
Scottsbluff is a team that has been hungry to get back to the big game after their back-to-back runner-up bids in 2018/19 and falling one game short of heading to the championship last season. They have the talent to compete with any team in Class B, and now it’s just a matter of putting it all together come playoff time. The Bearcats should once again feature one of the top running games in Class B with bruising back Sebastien Boyle Sebastien Boyle 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Scottsbluff | 2024 State NE . They also feature key returning players on defense, including Cord Symons Cord Symons 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB Scottsbluff | 2024 State NE , Carter Reisig Carter Reisig 6'3" | 205 lbs | ATH Scottsbluff | 2024 State NE , and several others. Once they find their answer at QB and fill out the OL, this will be a team ready to dominate in Class B.

Preseason Player of the Year
Winner: Sebastien Boyle Sebastien Boyle 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Scottsbluff | 2024 State NE – RB – Scottsbluff – 208 votes
The feature back for one of the toughest running games in the state, Sebastien Boyle Sebastien Boyle 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Scottsbluff | 2024 State NE , is back to continue punishing defenses. Sebastien is coming off a spectacular junior year, in which he ran for 1,926 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns and further cemented himself as the top back in the 2024 cycle. Boyle has consistently shown a great mix of power and speed in his runs. He can pound away at defenses when running between the tackles and he has the homerun speed if he’s able to find the open field. Strong, great vision, and proven production. Lots of expectations for a record-breaking year for Sebastien.
2nd Place: Evan Kastens Evan Kastens 6'0" | 175 lbs | RB Waverly | 2024 State NE – RB/LB – Waverly – 59 votes
3rd Place: Gunnar Lym Gunnar Lym 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Bennington | 2024 State NE – DB – Bennington – 39 votes

Preseason Offensive Player of the Year
Winner: Sebastien Boyle Sebastien Boyle 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Scottsbluff | 2024 State NE – RB – Scottsbluff – 197 votes
Sebastien goes two for two on preseason polls as he will also claim the offensive player of the year title.
2nd Place: Evan Kastens Evan Kastens 6'0" | 175 lbs | RB Waverly | 2024 State NE – RB – Waverly – 63 votes
3rd Place: Quinton Archer Quinton Archer 5'6" | 165 lbs | RB Bennington | 2024 State NE – RB – Bennington – 61 votes
Preseason Defensive Player of the Year
Winner: Aden Smith Aden Smith 5'11" | 170 lbs | RB Waverly | 2024 State NE – LB – Waverly – 147 votes
Waverly’s Aden Smith Aden Smith 5'11" | 170 lbs | RB Waverly | 2024 State NE could’ve been on either the offensive or defensive POY polls. However, I liked Aden’s defensive potential for this season, as he will be a crucial player in the middle of what should be an elite defense. Aden is a hard-hitting backer that gets to his spot quickly and can blow up ball carriers. Great overall athlete who will definitely contribute offensively and should step up big time on defense.
2nd Place: Cord Symons Cord Symons 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB Scottsbluff | 2024 State NE – LB – Scottsbluff – 86 votes
3rd Place: Gunnar Lym Gunnar Lym 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Bennington | 2024 State NE – DB – Bennington – 70 votes
Preseason OL of the Year
Winner: Tucker Wiegert Tucker Wiegert 6'2" | 250 lbs | OL Grand Island Northwest | 2024 State NE – Grand Island Northwest – 237 votes
Tucker is a player that I think could have a breakout season on the offensive line this year. The GI Northwest prospect is a versatile blocker that can play guard or tackle, but projects mostly at guard. He plays a very physical style of play and loves to finish his blocks in the dirt. Tucker displays solid mobility and lateral quickness, especially on pulling blocks. He moves well into the second level to seal off LBs and is always looking downfield looking for more work. In a pretty balanced GINW offense, Tucker will have a chance to show off his pass and run-blocking abilities.
2nd Place: Jimmy Miller Jimmy Miller 6'2" | 250 lbs | OL Bennington | 2024 State NE – Bennington – 163 votes
3rd Place: Gage Wolter Gage Wolter 5'10" | 255 lbs | OL Beatrice | 2024 State NE – Beatrice – 90 votes
