2022 Record: 6-5 (5A Quarterfinals)

Overview: Because Goddard lost to Deming at home in the quarterfinals of the Class 5A playoffs last fall, most people forget the Rockets actually earned a Top 4 seed and a first-round bye. Goddard has been a solid program for years, posting losing records only twice since 2004. They are a playoff fixture and won the 4A state title in 2012. Utilizing chiefly a triple option attack, the Rockets love to run the football. Senior Dominic Ramirez returns as the Goddard quarterback. He does a good job managing the offense and has an accurate throwing arm when asked to pass the football. Ramirez has an outstanding running back to rely on with senior [player_tooltip player_id='274787' first='Jonathan' last='Silva'] returning to ignite the run game. Alongside Silva in the backfield will be juniors [player_tooltip player_id='1535497' first='Nathan' last='Reed'] and Tristan Torres. The top wide receiver targets are sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1248678' first='Josiah' last='Castillo'] and senior Wyatt Northcutt. The offensive line has seniors Blaze Dean, Aiden Martin and [player_tooltip player_id='1103236' first='Luis' last='Ortiz'] back to give the Rockets plenty of experience there. Junior Beau Roach has OL experience as well. Defensively, Goddard has several starters returning. Daniel Moreno and Roach return to anchor the interior defensive line after both started as sophomores in 2022. Bruce Loya and Maddox Chavez are solid defensive ends. The linebacker spot will feature several newcomers. The battle raged throughout camp for starting jobs. OLB Albero Chavez was expected to win a starting job. Castillo started at CB last season as a freshman and should earn the spot again. Torres played some CB as well and was in the mix during camp.

Coach's Comments: “We had a pretty disappointing end to the season last year, so we need to respond and make a better showing. I was pleased with our players' work ethic during the summer and camp. We run a triple option running attack. We're not strictly a triple option team, but we're definitely a run-first football team.” – Goddard Head Coach Chris White.

2022 Record: 5-6 (6A 1st Round)

Overview: Alamogordo's debut season in Class 6A should be considered a success as the Tigers qualified for the playoffs and gave No. 5 seed Rio Rancho all they wanted on the road in a 21-7 first-round loss. Now the Tigers want to build on that encouraging start, although they must do it without three of the program's best players in recent years – Ryan Stovall (signed with Eastern New Mexico), Damon Mayberry (NMMI) and DB Mahki Gonzales (Western New Mexico). Six-foot-3 senior [player_tooltip player_id='275510' first='Elijah' last='Montoya'] returns as the Tigers quarterback. He's tough, fearless and a fantastic leader. Stovall and Mayberry led Alamogordo in rushing last season, so the Tigers will have fresh faces in the backfield. Senior A'veion Valdez was shifted from wide receiver to running back and should get a large number of carries. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1103183' first='Anthony' last='Audette'] will share the load with Valdez. Audette has impressed the coaching staff with his dynamic playmaking skills. When Valdez and Audette aren't playing RB, they'll line up at WR. Senior D'[player_tooltip player_id='1748645' first='Andre' last='Martin'] will be another target at WR. Basketball standout Jason Warren has joined the Tigers football program and will get an opportunity at WR. Junior Marcus Bryant looks to build upon a good sophomore season while junior Michael Gonzales gets his first opportunity at the varsity level. Two starters return on the offensive line – senior center Isaiah Gaskill and senior [player_tooltip player_id='1599532' first='Diego' last='Garcia']. The starting left tackle is sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1268759' first='Diego' last='Ortega']. Defensively, Alamogordo's biggest challenge is finding adequate replacements for Stovall and Mayberry. They combined for 188 tackles last season. Mason Pitman is back at OLB along with [player_tooltip player_id='1259075' first='Dylan' last='Hergenreder']. Junior Noel Garza and senior Devante Bosserman are the heir apparents to Stovall and Mayberry. That LB quartet gives the Tigers plenty of athleticism at the second level.

Coach's Comments: “When we moved to 6A, we were the smallest 6A school in the state. So, getting to the playoffs was a big deal. Then we had a shot to beat Rio Rancho. They made more plays than us and won the game. But I told our kids how huge that was for our program in Year 1. Our numbers are growing every year. We're up to about 115 kids now. Our previous classes have set a standard these current players are trying to meet. Not beating Rio Rancho put a chip on the shoulders of some of our guys. Now we need to win a playoff game to really establish ourselves in 6A and become a program that makes the playoffs year in and year out. We have to be more explosive in the passing game. That doesn't mean we're going to be throwing the football all the time but we have to take some shots. Hitting big plays down the field in the passing team is something we struggled with last season. Sometimes we were too one-dimensional on offense.” – Alamogordo head coach AJ Cisco.
