Carencro and Westgate, each led by their versatile athletes at quarterback and stingy defensive units overall, looked their potential state title-hopeful parts — at least in this still-early stage of the season’s ramp-up process.
Here are a few notes on nine of the standout performers from the evening.
Brian Amune Brian Amune ATH Carencro | 2025 LA Jr. | 5-10, 175 LB/RB | Carencro (2025)
The two-way standout had a couple of Carencro’s biggest plays of the scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Amune played fast and physically from his linebacker spot on defense, playing well in both run support and coverage in a performance highlighted by a little delayed blitz through the A-gap to blow up a play with a sack. And on offense, he did a nice job following his guard and center for an 11-yard run up the middle and over the goal line.
Jaboree Antoine Jaboree Antoine 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Westgate | 2025 State LA | 6-2, 180 DB | Westgate (2025)
The Tigers’ junior star, one of the nation’s top defensive back prospects, took all the first-team snaps at quarterback with a few impressive plays, particularly showing his athleticism taking off as a rushing threat and his poise and competitiveness leading a late scoring drive on which he broke a long run and followed with a quick touchdown pass out to running back Tavias Gordon Tavias Gordon 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Westgate | 2025 State LA .
Chantz Babineaux Chantz Babineaux 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Carencro | 2026 State LA | 6-0, 185 ATH | Carencro (2026)
Some folks seem to be still figuring it out, but Babineaux is one of the stars of Louisiana’s 2026 class. After a record-setting freshman season at receiver, he takes over at quarterback where he showed flashes in the scrimmage of both the passing and rushing threat he represents leading the Bears’ offense including a couple particularly memorable runs on which he found seams, accelerated and managed to wind his way to the end zone against a Westgate secondary not lacking for speed in its own right.
Evan Bryant | 6-4 DL | Westgate (2025)
and Raymond Jack Raymond Jack 6'3" | 210 lbs | LB Westgate | 2026 State LA | LB | Westgate (2026)
LSU-committed defensive lineman De’Myrion Johnson De’Myrion Johnson 6'2" | 280 lbs | DL Westgate | 2024 State LA and standout senior linebackers Dy’traevous Lively and Andre Williams Andre Williams 6'0" | 210 lbs | LB Westgate | 2024 State LA are the most well-known leaders in the Tigers’ defensive front seven, but the group looked stout all-around including some standouts on the edge who showed their consistency setting the edge and keeping contain and also their get-off for a couple more disruptive plays in the backfield.
Kaiden Castille | 6-0, 205 DL | Carencro (2025)
Castille helped cap the Bears’ strong defensive performance by getting his arms up in a passing lane and batting down a pivotal two-point attempt. The big play in a big moment against top-flight competition should be a nice confidence boost for the junior defensive lineman stepping into a bigger role for a front that graduate more than a couple leaders from last year’s group.
Kameron Cyprien Kameron Cyprien 6'3" | 225 lbs | DL Carencro | 2024 State LA | 6-3, 215 TE/DL | Carencro (2024)
The Bears’ two-way standout in the trenches has a chance to be a notable representative of the program at the college level with even some SEC programs beginning to monitor his potential, though he will likely go the JUCO route first. Cyprien hauled in one of Babineaux’s passes, broke a tackle and took off upfield for one of the Bears’ biggest pass plays of the evening and showed some explosiveness and disruptiveness from a variety of alignments on the defensive line.
Davian Jackson Davian Jackson 6'2" | 170 lbs | ATH Westgate | 2025 State LA | 6-2, 170 ATH | Westgate (2025)
“Diamond” had the Tigers’ big, explosive play of the evening — particularly before Antoine engineered the late drive — with a breakaway, 80-yard touchdown run. The versatile weapon for his team’s offense also caught a couple passes during the course of the evening in his more natural position for the next level and one of Antoine’s biggest targets to the outside.
Jeremy Lawrence | DB | Carencro (2025)
Both teams largely did a solid job taking care of the football, but the Bears’ junior safety managed to secure a takeaway on a deflected pass he intercepted, including a decent return, to help spark some excitement for the unit.
Joni Martin Joni Martin 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Carencro | 2024 State LA | 5-10, 170 DB/WR | Carencro (2024)
The versatile defensive back, a two-time all-district performer on that side of the ball at corner and free safety, showed off a bit of his ability on the other side of the ball with a leaping grab downfield for what the other of the Bears’ biggest pass plays of the game.
