Continue ReadingGage has all of the physical attributes to be a stud at the next level. Offensively he lines up as a bruiser of a tight end, delivering punishing blocks, but defensively is where I am most impressed. Gage has long arms, and a quick get off to cause absolute havoc in the backfield. He has a plethora of moves, but I was really impressed with the balance and lateral movement, and the vision to get a quick read on the play. When he gets to the ball, it’s over for the play, as a ton of the hits are crushing blows and there’s no escaping. Gage is seeing offers from D2 schools, but I still have him underrated as I think he could end up at the MAC level or higher. If a D2 school picks Chatfield up, it’s a huge steal.

I was really caught off guard by the lack of offers for Gilmartin. This guy is always crushing down on the point of attack, and consistently makes the effort plays. I really like his very obvious football IQ, as he always stays home and reads the play and his responsibilities. His bull rush can end up with offensive linemen on their backs, and has good body control when going after the QB, he never gets ahead of himself. He’s only got 1 offer from a D3 school, but he definitely will grade out at a D2 level I believe.

I’ve mentioned Carson before, but I just really like his game. A relentless passrush and discipline to fill gaps in the run game, and great quickness off the ball make him a really well rounded player. I came away impressed last time I saw him, and I really think he has another gear to him he could reach this fall. He could be a major disruptor this year and Charlotte will rely on that big time. If you need an impact player, this is your guy.

Another high motor guy with a lot of upside is Jaxson Engelburg. He’s got the thing you can’t teach- size- paired with a quick get off and a variety of moves. He’s starting to get some college attention with offers from LTU and others. I would be shocked if those don’t pick up substantially this fall, as he is poised to have a breakout year. His roll is increasing, and I know he put some time in this offseason to get better. I hope to get my eyes on him again this season and see what he has improved upon!

Another guy with tremendous size, his skills are still raw, but it looks like he can be molded into a superb lineman. He does have a good first step, and I was surprised at how well he was able to chase ballcarriers from behind and get them to the ground. You’d think these backs would scoot away from a guy of that size, but he chases relentlessly and never gives up. He’s a guy that will absolutely give his full effort every play, and those are the guys you can work with! He’s a sure fire D2 guy as long as he continues to develop.
