Continue ReadingPrep Redzone Louisiana will release its updated 2024 rankings this week, with some notable new additions and risers entering their senior seasons.
Leading up to the complete, 300-player list on Thursday, we will count down the top 30 in more detail.
And make sure to check back throughout the week following the release for additional features and positional breakdowns.
30. Joseph Cryer Joseph Cryer 6'4" | 290 lbs | OL Natchitoches Central | 2024 State LA | 6-4, 290 OL | Natchitoches Central (Ole Miss)
The big mauler from central Louisiana remains among the state’s top tier of offensive linemen in the class — particularly elite among the likely interior linemen at the next level — in the new Prep Redzone Louisiana rankings update, as he has been throughout his high school career.
29. Marcus Dawson Jr. Marcus Dawson Jr. 6'3" | 190 lbs | DB University Lab | 2024 State LA | 6-3, 190 DB | University Lab
The Cubs’ wiry, versatile defensive back — primarily a ballhawk on the back end of the secondary, but also with plenty experience working at corner — remains a top 30 prospect in the latest round of rankings. Dawson showed notable potentially from early on and has continued to work heavily to maximize his potential and earn opportunities that now include several Group of Five and FCS offers and has firm positioning on several SEC radars.
28. Sandy Lewis Sandy Lewis 6'2" | 235 lbs | LB Lafayette Christian | 2024 State LA | 6-2, 235 LB | Lafayette Christian
With teammates Ju’Juan Johnson Ju’Juan Johnson 6'0" | 195 lbs | ATH Lafayette Christian | 2024 State LA and Melvin Hills III Melvin Hills III 6'4" | 265 lbs | DL Lafayette Christian | 2024 State LA announcing their commitments in May and on Wednesday, all the more eyes will turn to the next big member of the talented senior class for where his college decision may take him. Lewis is tall, long and highly competitive defensive playmaker and leader who was a bit of a chess piece for the Knights as a junior and is one of the state’s top remaining uncommitted rising seniors as August approaches.
27. Bernard Causey Bernard Causey 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB John F. Kennedy | 2024 State LA | 6-0, 160 DB | John F. Kennedy (Ole Miss)
“Beeby” earned a top-10 position in these rankings on the heels of his breakout sophomore campaign before sliding back for a stretch this year and now returning to the top 30. The long, athletic and aggressive Causey has the talent to prove himself one of the top prospects in this class if he remains focused on his priorities, work and continued development.
26. Joshua Jackson Joshua Jackson 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR St. Augustine | 2024 State LA | 6-3, 180 WR | St. Augustine (Tulane)
The Purple Knights’ top offensive weapon remains steady in the mid-20s from the previous rankings update to the next, even nudging up a couple spots. Hometown Tulane landed a recruiting steal this summer in the standout receiver once expected to likely land at either Michigan or Mississippi State. Jackson has good size and speed, tracks the ball well and is a reliable pass-catcher on even contested, challenging and occasionally acrobatic receptions.
25. Dylan Day Dylan Day 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Southern Lab | 2024 State LA | 6-0, 170 DB | Southern Lab (Miami)
The speedy and smart nickel/safety remains in the No. 21-25 range in the latest rankings update, a ball-hawking defensive back who is a nice pull for Miami coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes staff to land in Louisiana.
24. Jayden Scott Jayden Scott 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Archbishop Shaw | 2024 State LA | 6-4, 240 DL | Archbishop Shaw (Tulane)
Welcome the Eagles’ star defensive end and overall leader to the top 30. Scott is the newest face on this list, but a prospect whose junior film caught Prep Redzone Louisiana’s attention and prioritized a spring visit that further cemented confidence in his potential SEC talent. Scott has good size, an explosive get-off and closing speed, a tenacious motor and a good mix of power and quickness in his moves past blockers. He hasn’t been one of the most publicized names in the class overall, but may prove one of its most productive at the next level.
23. Anthony Robinson III Anthony Robinson III 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Destrehan | 2024 State LA | 6-0, 185 ATH | Destrehan (Ole Miss)
The third Rebels commitment on this list, the smart and versatile Robinson, constantly in position and on balance, projects as a standout safety at the next level with his speed and quickness to cover smaller receivers and backs and strength to battle bigger athletes and blockers.
22. KJ Daniels KJ Daniels 5'10" | 155 lbs | WR Bowling Green | 2024 State LA | 5-10, 155 WR | Franklinton (Oklahoma)
One of the fastest, most dynamic weapons in Louisiana’s 2024 class remains in the No. 20-25 range after missing time this spring, including the scrimmage at which Prep Redzone Louisiana had hoped to catch him. The class has a handful or so of student-athletes in its top tier of receiver prospects, and the spring Oklahoma commitment remains squarely in that number.
21. Albert Smith III Albert Smith III 6'2" | 205 lbs | LB Ponchatoula | 2024 State LA | 6-2, 205 LB | Ponchatoula (Arizona State)
The quick, explosive edge rusher continues to fluctuate from the mid-teens to the mid-20s, as he has throughout the past two years. Smith announced his commitment in May to Arizona State, but has been notably pursued by Ole Miss since then. Smith will be among the state’s top rising seniors returning from injury this fall after missing the spring and, as if opposing blockers and quarterbacks hadn’t already had their hands full, he seemed eager to make up for lost time.
