Prep Redzone was in attendance at Welch Stadium to scout the group of athletes from Kansas.
Here is a look at five defensive linemen from the Class of 2024 who hope they improved their recruiting stock during the camp.
This is the second of multiple reports from the OL/DL Camp at Emporia.
Jalen Wilson Jalen Wilson 6'1" | 240 lbs | DL Bishop Miege | 2024 State KS , DL, 6’1”, 240, Bishop Miege
Wilson is the highest-ranked participant in the camp from Kansas. He is currently ranked No. 104 overall in the Class of 2024 and is ranked No. 10 among defensive linemen in his class. He looked really solid during the agility and testing drills. He can beat blockers one-on-one or split a double team. He has a low center of gravity and moves well. He is still looking for his first college offer.
Nic Ruth, OL/DE, 6’5”, 265, Newton
Ruth is a prospect with a high ceiling. He was really busting it during the camp. You could tell he wanted to be there and that he knew what was at stake. Of all the athletes at the camp, he seemed to have a bit of a “lunch pail” work ethic and a bulldog mentality. He has five offers from college programs and is putting in the work to bring more programs to his family’s kitchen table. The offensive line is where he will more than likely start his college career, but his speed could allow him to be moved to the defensive side as a pass-rushing DE.
Kyrece Robinson, DE, 6’2”, 230, Topeka West
Robinson is a strong young man who is still a little on the raw side, but he has a solid chance to play at the next level. He competed with high energy throughout the camp. He ran a sub-five-second forty. He fires off the ball low to get under the opponent’s pads. Another season of experience on the field and in the weight room will benefit Robinson. He is looking for his first college offer and I would not hesitate to pass his info on to JUCO coaches.
Gabriel Henriques Gabriel Henriques 6'3" | 270 lbs | OL Derby | 2024 State KS , DL/OL, 6’3”, 260, Derby
Man, I really enjoyed watching this prospect out of Derby. He is a no-doubt football player, however, I would have loved to have seen him work with the defensive lineman for a few reps. He plays tackle for Derby and worked with the O-line group at the ESU camp. His size and speed combination to me looks like a guy who would be almost impossible to budge off the line of scrimmage. Maybe he is the Michael Ohr protective type, but I still would like to see him just turned loose to chase opposing ball carriers. He has two offers from college programs.
Christian Gonzales Christian Gonzales 6'1" | 270 lbs | DL Shawnee Heights | 2024 State KS , DT 6’1”, 280, Shawnee Heights
Gonzales was one of the top-looking run-stopping defensive linemen at the camp. He can overpower blockers or beat them with his quickness. He is a smart football player and appeared to be coachable during the camp. He has offers from two college programs. Gonzales is the 20th-ranked defensive lineman in the Class of 2024 and is ranked No. 173 overall by Prep Redzone.
