Here are a few more details on the group, which includes representatives from all over the state.
Charles Gurley III Charles Gurley III 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB St. Augustine | 2024 State LA | 6-2, 180 DB | St. Augustine
Another key member of the Purple Knights’ impressive senior class, the long, physical cornerback is the highest-ranked new debut in this round of rankings updates. “Cube” saw his his recruitment pick up this spring with Toledo, Indiana, Marshall, Mississippi Valley State, Columbia, Southeastern Louisiana, South Alabama and Yale from late April to early June. He committed to South Alabama later in June.
Nathan Roberts Nathan Roberts 6'0" | 400 lbs | WR Carroll | 2024 State LA | 6-0, 175 WR | Carroll
The Bulldogs’ versatile receiver checks a lot of intriguing boxes with his long arms the give him a good catch radius and strength in going up over defensive backs for contested grabs, his listed 4.5-second speed and sharp quickness to shake defenders in his routs or with the ball already in his hands. All those attributes helped lead to consistent big-play ability this fall to the tune of 1,012 yard and 17 touchdowns on 53 receptions — an average of nearly 20 yards per catch. His offer list includes Louisiana Tech, South Carolina, Grambling State, Lamar and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Levi Darensbourg Levi Darensbourg 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Edna Karr | 2024 State LA | 6-0, 170 DB | Edna Karr
One of a couple new top-100 additions from a Cougars’ secondary, the speedy corner earned a Toledo offer this winter on the immediate heels of a solid junior campaign as a starter. Darensbourg is smart, doesn’t shy away from contact and plays fast and with a focus and persistence to not give up on plays that leads to late breakups or interceptions off tipped passes. Toledo, Dartmouth, Mississippi Valley State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, Furman, Howard and Lafayette College are among his offers.
Jamaal Sapp Jamaal Sapp 6'3" | 205 lbs | LB Ponchatoula | 2024 State LA | 6-3, 205 LB/DL | Ponchatoula
Albert Smith III Albert Smith III 6'2" | 205 lbs | LB Ponchatoula | 2024 State LA ‘s “twin on the field” provides a tremendous complement to the Arizona State commit on the other side of the Ponchatoula defense. Sapp has good size — actually slightly taller than Smith — and good get-off and quickness to his rushing moves in his own right. He works primarily with his hand in the turf, but is comfortable as a stand-up outside backer and playing some in space. Louisiana Christian has extended his only offer thus far, though he looks to have Division-I potential.
Alonzo Jackson Jr. Alonzo Jackson Jr. 6'1" | 210 lbs | LB Haynesville | 2024 State LA | 6-1, 210 LB | Haynesville
Louisiana Tech became the first college program to extend an offer last month to the standout linebacker from the small-school powerhouse in the northwest corner of the state. Jackson appears to have good length to his frame, plays quick and light on his feet to a point of being almost springy and shows impressively fast and relentless pursuit to the ball where he arrives with some nastiness to his tackling.
Ethan Veal Ethan Veal 6'0" | 210 lbs | LB Zachary | 2024 State LA | 6-0, 210 LB | Zachary
The active, versatile linebacker, who committed this summer to Louisiana (Lafayette) is among the well-fitted leaders to the fast, physical play that his Broncos are hoping to get back to this fall. Veal is a strong, thickly built athlete who enjoys contact and shows good burst that Zachary has used in moments in the offensive backfield and in a mix of roles on defense in the linebacking corps or in more of a hybrid rover safety role in the box or capable of splitting out over the slot.
Shavez Morris Shavez Morris 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Edna Karr | 2024 State LA | 6-0, 180 DB | Edna Karr
The second of the Cougars’ top-100 debuts as mentioned above, Morris has worked during the past year more in a nickel role where he’s blanketed quick slot receivers and shown great reads and anticipation to jump and drive on passes anywhere in his direction for consistent interceptions. Mississippi Valley State extended his first offer in May.
