I am back with more Iowa coverage and this time I take a look at some stand-out big men.
Franz Reisz Franz Reisz 6'5" | 235 lbs | DL Harlan Community | 2024 State IA | 2024 | DL | Harlan | 6’5″ 230 lbs
One player that I believe is primed to make a splash this season is Harlan’s Franz Reisz Franz Reisz 6'5" | 235 lbs | DL Harlan Community | 2024 State IA , who caught my attention at our Stock Up showcase last December. He was a player that looked the part right off the bat with a tall, athletic, lengthy frame packed with lots of explosiveness. His presence on the defensive line helped Harlan lock up another state championship in 2022. Reisz is a great edge defender that can rush the passer or defend the run. Franz showed excellent versatility in how he breaks off from blocks, as he can hit blockers with power moves or with finesse. He’s a very smart player that trusts what he sees, plays his gaps very well, and makes impactful tackles when he gets to his mark. Reisz also has great burst and short-area quickness to track down backs and makes plays coming off the backside. Franz has a nice list of offers, including Bemidji State, Northern State, Missouri Western, Sioux Falls, Northwest Missouri State, Lindenwood, and Wayne State. I’m looking forward to seeing what Franz can do in a full season of terrorizing QBs and backfields.
Brody Clubb Brody Clubb 6'3" | 245 lbs | DL Clear Creek-Amana | 2025 State IA | 2025 | DL | Clear Creek-Amana | 6’3″ 234 lbs
Clipper’s junior Brody Clubb Brody Clubb 6'3" | 245 lbs | DL Clear Creek-Amana | 2025 State IA is already starting to make recruiting buzz after earning a 3-star distinction and his first D1 offer from Iowa State in June. When you watch Brody’s tape, there’s no doubt why he is gaining P5 attention. In only seven games played, Brody racked up 44 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, and 4.5 sacks during his sophomore season. He’s a versatile defender that can line up practically anywhere on the defensive line with reps at defensive tackle, defensive end, and even lining up in a two-point stance on occasion. Brody has a strong base that he uses to anchor down and set the edge. Clubb uses a quick get-off and powerful initial punch to blow blockers off of their spots, which he can then follow up with more power or a speed move. He’s relentless in his pursuit and is always playing through the whistle. He was also a tremendous blocking tight end for the Clippers last season and will likely make the full-time move to OL in year 3. Expect more Power 5 offers to come flying in soon!
Chase Schutty Chase Schutty 6'5" | 210 lbs | TE Ankeny Centennial | 2024 State IA | 2024 | TE | Ankeny Centennial | 6’5″ 220 lbs
Very exciting prospect to watch on tape! He had a great junior year, where he finished with 26 receptions, 409 yards, and two touchdowns, and he will be looking to build on that this season. Chase is a dynamic pass-catcher that could play receiver or fill out his frame to play tight end at the next level, also showing versatility to line up outside or inside at tight end. He runs routes very well for someone his size and is sharp when breaking off at the top of his route. He is a standout basketball player, and it translates well to the gridiron, where he’s very good at elevating over defenders and making catches at the ball’s highest point. Schutty displayed great concentration and body control when going up for contested catches with the strength to hold on through contact. Also, don’t sleep on him at defensive end, where he does a great job using his length and athleticism to create separation at the line. Chase has already started to make some noise with offers from Morningside, Southwest Minnesota State, South Dakota Mines, Grand View, Upper Iowa, William Jewell, Missouri Western, St. Thomas, Central Missouri, Minnesota State Mankato, and Pitt State with a few others keeping tabs on him. Hidden gem!
Gavin Douglas Gavin Douglas 6'2" | 290 lbs | OL Southeast Polk | 2024 State IA | 2024 | OL | Southeast Polk | 6’2″ 275 lbs
Returning left guard, Gavin Douglas Gavin Douglas 6'2" | 290 lbs | OL Southeast Polk | 2024 State IA will continue on the line of talented offensive linemen to come out of Southeast Polk. Gavin is an absolute mauler on the OL who plays with a mean, physical edge while also displaying excellent technique and athleticism. He uses his hands very well and does a great job working his way inside to gain control of his opponent. Gavin then has the strength to follow through and overpower defenders, usually ending with some pancake blocks. Douglas shows great mobility on pulls and can move up to the second level with ease. For a player his size, Gavin is very nimble on his feet and impressed with consistent footwork and positioning. Big-game experience, well-coached, and a high football IQ player who will make any OL room better. Douglas’ offer list features some great schools, including Drake, Morningside, William Jewell, Benedictine, and Grand View, with more likely to jump on board.
