We are on the look out for more as the season gets rolling, but the guys we did find have a lot of value to them. Today, we highlight and evaluate the special and unique talents that have joined the 2024 class at tight end and running back.
Guys like Peyton Puckett Peyton Puckett 6’3″ | 215 lbs | TE Jackson Prep | 2024 State MS who are good in both the run and pass game are hard to come by at the tight end position. Peyton’s athleticism and speed allow him to run crisp routes and showcase impressive hands, making him a reliable target downfield with big play ability. Adding in his ability to make plays after the catch, Peyton is an absolute mismatch at tight end. In the run game, Peyton’s strength and tenacity as a blocker make him a force to be reckoned with. His ability to overpower defenders allows him to create running lanes and support the ground game. This guy is going to be one of the best TEs in the MAIS this season and has all the potential to gain some college looks as the season goes on.
Ahmad Hardy Ahmad Hardy 5’11” | 200 lbs | RB Lawrence County | 2024 State MS , a well-built running back from Lawrence County, stands out with his impressive long speed on the field. A productive player last year, Ahmad is due for a big senior campaign ahead. Ahmad possesses the ability to change direction swiftly and can score from anywhere on the field. His elusiveness allows him to make people miss and create big plays. With excellent home run ability, Ahmad can break away from defenders. This is the type of guy that has good contact balance and cannot be brought down by just arm tackles. His combination of size, speed, and playmaking skills makes him a dynamic threat in the backfield. Excited to see how his 2023 season goes; it can certainly lead to some college looks.
A bit of a sleeper prospect out of Winona, Danarius Robinson Danarius Robinson 5’9″ | 200 lbs | RB Winona | 2024 State MS is poised to have a big season this year. The senior is a downhill back with good toughness and strength to him. Danarius has great contact balance and can drive his legs through defenders to pick up extra yardage. He has good speed in the open field and a versatile skill set to go along with that. Despite being a bigger back, Danarius has great hands out of the backfield and can run some smooth routes. This guy will have us watching this coming season – interested to see how he can end his high school career.
An old school style fullback type back, Xzavion Quick Xzavion Quick 5’10” | 205 lbs | RB Florence | 2024 State MS has a skill set that coaches at the next level dream of having on their roster. This is a guy that can get it done as a ball carrier or as an additional blocker. With the ball in his hands, Xzavion can run through contact and make defenders pay for trying to tackle him. He has good speed and is more of a north-south runner than sideline to sideline, but still has the ability to do both. As an extra blocker, Xzavion is physical and nasty, clearing the path for the running back behind him. He plays with good pad level and can de-cleat defenders who are in his way. Really talented player that has college upside.
