Huge thank you to Coach Gottula and the Lincoln Southeast squad for letting me swing by practice to check out some of their players. The Knights are currently in the middle of their summer clinic as they begin to gear up for the season.
– The depth at key positions is going to be huge during the long season. The OL group is especially deep with at least 6-7 starting caliber players. The skill positions also feature lots of quality players.
– Speaking of the OL, as is the case with most teams, it starts with the big guys up front. Left tackle Cooper Johnson Cooper Johnson 6'6" | 290 lbs | OL Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE (Twitter) looks the part of a next-level tackle, period. Dane Newman Dane Newman 6'4" | 270 lbs | OL Lincoln Southeast | 2025 State NE (Twitter) is up next with potential on both OL and DL. Stephen Sullivan-Diaz (Twitter), Jack Cooper Jack Cooper OL Lincoln Southeast | 2024 NE (Twitter), Josh Dozler Josh Dozler 5'11" | 275 lbs | OL Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE (Twitter) will be filling in the interior OL with either Sam Folmer Sam Folmer 6'2" | 180 lbs | DL Lincoln Southeast | 2024 NE (Twitter) or Alex Duey battling for the tackle spot opposite of Cooper.
– The duo of Pierre Allen Jr Pierre Allen Jr 6'3" | 215 lbs | DL Lincoln Southeast | 2025 State NE (Twitter) and Zayvion Campbell Zayvion Campbell 6'2" | 195 lbs | LB Lincoln Southeast | 2025 State NE (Twitter) is going to be deadly this season. Their average size is about 6’3″ and 205ish pounds, with great explosiveness, violent hands, and can get great bend coming off the edge. I believe both prospects have the talent and potential to be high-level D1 prospects.
– The transfer players are making themselves right at home and are ready to make an impact. Lincoln High transfers Davieian and Donald will be key defensive players 2024 DB/ATH Davieian Williams Davieian Williams 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE (Twitter) was involved in all three facets of the game and received quite a few touches in today’s reps. I didn’t get to see Donald DeFrand Jr Donald DeFrand Jr 6'1" | 170 lbs | ATH Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE (Twitter) in action, but I have no doubt he’s had no issues adjusting. One player to watch out for is junior Ashton Coffey Ashton Coffey 5'9" | 155 lbs | ATH Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE (Twitter), who is coming over from North Star and has taken big steps in his development this offseason and could get some looks at slot.
– One of the freshmen I’m most looking forward to watching this season is ATH Kadin Logan Kadin Logan 5'7" | 170 lbs | ATH Lincoln Southeast | 2027 NE (Twitter), a super speedy, physical, smart player that has already started to make a name for himself in the world of Track & Field.
– 2026’s Nate Appleget Nate Appleget 6'3" | 195 lbs | ATH Lincoln Southeast | 2026 State NE (Twitter) and Caden Ward Caden Ward 6'2" | 210 lbs | TE Lincoln Southeast | 2026 State NE (Twitter) are two players to note. They have similar frames. Both possess great size/athleticism, and both of them rotated into the first team in various roles. Nate has tons of upside at receiver and the versatility to play a LB/S hybrid role. Caden plays tight end, linebacker, and also got some long-snapping work in.
