High school football in South Carolina is only six weeks away. There are five games on the non-region 2023 schedule in York and Chester Counties that you'll want to keep your eye on, including a star-studded opening week.

South Pointe at Spartanburg (August 18)

This should be a fun one to kick off the 2023 season. South Pointe will be led by recent Georgia State commit, quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='771038' first='Malachi' last='Marshall'], who is a dual threat. You will also have an emerging receiver in Jordan Curbeam, who will look to take the top off the Viking defense. [player_tooltip player_id='589016' first='Zantwan' last='Nelson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='212416' first='J'Zavien' last='Currence'] (pictured above) will lead a Stallion defense that will always fly around and be aggressive – not to mention you have [player_tooltip player_id='139304' first='Chris' last='Dixon'] back for his senior year.

For the Vikings, keep an eye out for Cam'rich Smith, who turned heads at the Palmetto Combine Series earlier this spring and Ra'el Senghor, who is a speedster on the outside at receiver.

Providence Day vs. Northwestern (Saturday, August 19 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte)

Whenever you have a North Carolina school getting together against a South Carolina school, it's normally a must see game, and that's what we have here. Northwestern will be led by [player_tooltip player_id='241044' first='Finley' last='Polk'] at quarterback, who threw for 3301 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2022 and [player_tooltip player_id='265222' first='Turbo' last='Richard'], who ran for 2093 yards back for his senior season. Keep an eye out for [player_tooltip player_id='589050' first='Greer' last='Hopkins'] at receiver along with [player_tooltip player_id='605531' first='Will' last='Massey'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1360210' first='Mason' last='Grier'] on the defensive line.

Providence Day will be led by quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='91362' first='Jadyn' last='Davis'], who recently committed to Michigan and wide receivers [player_tooltip player_id='147622' first='Jordan' last='Shipp'] and [player_tooltip player_id='147623' first='Channing' last='Goodwin']. [player_tooltip player_id='149087' first='Brody' last='Barnhardt'] will be a guy to watch as well.

Catawba Ridge at Nation Ford (September 1)

Both teams will be breaking in new quarterbacks as we approach the first full month of the season. Nation Ford has skill talent that should help the new quarterback out in [player_tooltip player_id='154863' first='Jeremiah' last='Hailstock'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1575429' first='Josh' last='Ameo']. Keep an eye on Braydon Flores at the linebacker position for the Falcons defensively.

For the Copperheads, [player_tooltip player_id='809747' first='Brady' last='Ambrose'] is a reliable tight end who is tough to defend and Jordan Gilliam is an enforcer at the safety position who can take away what opponents do best.

Union County at York (September 1)

Last year's edition of this game at Union was an all out shootout of a contest as the Cougars won 70-49. Could this year be the same? York returns [player_tooltip player_id='208367' first='Ayden' last='Davis'], who the coaches plan to use more as an athlete at defensive back, wide receiver and in the read option game at quarterback. [player_tooltip player_id='267449' first='Debo' last='Hall'] and Zadarrius Carter will be downfield threats at receiver. Keep an eye on [player_tooltip player_id='998716' first='Dalton' last='Russell'], as the Cougars could use him at running back and linebacker.

Quan Jeter will be a guy to watch for Union County, who will be a focal point for the Yellow Jackets' run game.

Chester at South Pointe (September 8)

Two of the top quarterbacks in our 2024 rankings will be featured in this one: [player_tooltip player_id='771038' first='Malachi' last='Marshall'] for the Stallions and [player_tooltip player_id='457973' first='Trooper' last='Floyd'] for the Cyclones. [player_tooltip player_id='771035' first='Kyan' last='Kennedy'] is a huge threat at tight end for the Cyclones along with [player_tooltip player_id='771062' first='Reggie' last='Heath'], with all his athletic ability. We will know a lot more about Bobby Collins's team by this point as their non-region slate features games on the road against Spartanburg, as mentioned above and Gaffney on Sept. 1.
