Continue ReadingIf there is one player in the NJIC Colonial division that deserves more recognition, it’s Cole Goumas Cole Goumas 5’10” | 180 lbs | DB Rutherford | 2024 NJ . It’s no easy task stopping this running back from Rutherford. With 867 yards on the ground and 12 total touchdowns, Cole was a balanced running back with a good mix of quickness and strength in 2022. Cole can enter the hole with a burst of acceleration, and if needed, can truck over defenders getting in his way. Cole’s quick cutting ability allows him to slice and dice through the middle of the field and leave defenders in the dust when he sprints on by. Where I think Cole will play an even bigger role in 2023 is in the pass game. Cole has the potential to be a scary pass catcher out of the backfield.
A deadly tandem is emerging out of Rutherford, New Jersey. With Cole Goumas Cole Goumas 5’10” | 180 lbs | DB Rutherford | 2024 NJ dominating on the ground, Chris Gioia Chris Gioia 6’1″ | 175 lbs | WR Rutherford | 2024 State NJ is the face to fear through the air. With 608 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022, Chris is a trustworthy, downfield threat that always finds a way to get by the defender. Chris has some speed to him that defenses should be worried about. He’ll blaze on by and make a contested catch over the shoulder or at its highest point. He is an extremely reliable target that will be racking up some impressive stats in 2023. Chris is one of my favorite returnerss from this division and I’m anticipating he and Rutherford to make some big plays this fall.
Jalen Powell
Jalen Powell
Jalen Powell is a player that made plays on both sides of the ball in 2022. The Becton athlete ran for 66o yards and 7 tocuhdowns last season. Where Jalen really shines is in the defensive backfield as a cornerback. Jalen was able to accumulate 59 tackles and 2.5 sacks last fall. He blows up short screens with his quick change of direction and can wrap up the receiver before they can turn upfield. Jalen is a very reliable tackler to have on the perimeter, and is aggressive when blockers approach him. He will delivers hands to the chest of the blocker and toss them to the side. Coverage wise, Jalen has a good feel for where he is on the field and drops well into the throwing path of the QB.
Ivan Larcier
Ivan Larcier
Ivan Larcier of Lodi is another athlete that has been successful in multiple phases of the game. Offensively, Ivan lines up as a receiver with a lot of speed behind him. He was able to bring the ball to the end zone 3 times in 2022 and catch for 452 yards. He has a smaller frame for a receiver but don’t let that fool you, Ivan is quick on his feet and is sure to outmaneuver his opponent. I think Ivan is set for a big statistical jump offensively in 2023.
Defensively, Ivan made a big impact from the corner position. He was able to bring in 57 total tackles and snag the ball 4 times for the interception. Ivan is the type of corner you want to go up against the best the offense has to offer. He thrives on the defensive side of the ball and can make a play on the ball regardless of where he is on the field.
