This is no easy task, and I have great respect for anyone on the day-to-day QB grind, as I imagine it’s insanely difficult with loads of pressure. Today, I’ll be reviewing five of my top unoffered Quarterbacks!
Joe Mccarthy | Petoskey | Hudl
I’ve only seen Joe a few times in person, but he’s impressed me each time. He’s a smaller dual-threat QB who has done well in 7v7 events this summer. Early in the offseason at Legacy, I saw Joe make a ton of great throws in the short-intermediate parts of the field. His deep accuracy and fundamentals could use work, but with a great season, Joe could earn college attention.
Ryan Shelby Ryan Shelby QB North Farmington | 2024 State MI | North Farmington | Hudl
I truly hope Ryan has a breakout year because I’ve seen the potential for years. First off, Ryan has a great ability to evade pressure and make something out of nothing. Although he tends to hold the ball longer than he should, Ryan is able to make up for it with his athleticism. He also has a surprisingly big arm- a compliment to his standout Baseball abilities. Although I do not have a college grade for Ryan right now, he could easily work his way to receiving D3 offers.
Tyler Herzog Tyler Herzog 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Avondale | 2024 State MI | Avondale | Hudl
As I was drafting this article, Tyler received his first offer from Alma College!
Going into this article, I had Tyler as the best QB without a single offer. Having been around him during his Freshman season at Avondale, I knew Tyler was going to be good. He had an incredible competitive spirit with an unrelenting will to improve. Now, Tyler heads into his senior season coming off a phenomenal Junior season where he helped break school records. Tyler showed great improvement in understanding the offensive scheme, reading the defense, evading pressure, and his overall accuracy became much more consistent. Tyler is heading into his Senior season with a new head coach and new offensive scheme. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in the OAA Gold, and I’m confident more offers will come.
Alek Wickstrom Alek Wickstrom 5'11" | 155 lbs | QB West Catholic | 2024 State MI | West Catholic | Hudl
I strongly believe that Alek will surprise a lot of people this season. Through 3 years at Grand Rapids Christian, Alek was a solid QB with some great moments offensively but was unable to truly stand out from the crowd. Heading to defending State Champion West Catholic, I already see Alek improving in multiple areas. Mainly, he looks much more confident out there and is getting the ball off much quicker. A variety of factors play a role in this. Coaching, a more fluid offense, better weapons, and likely a lot of work on his end that I’m not crediting enough. I hope Alek is able to step out there and perform at a high level week in and week out, because if he can, offers will come.
Jake Zann Jake Zann 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Alpena | 2024 State MI | Alpena | Hudl
Jake is a big-arm QB who’s done a ton of great things with Alpena. Just look at the tape- there’s a ton of potential with Jake’s arm talent. There are times when he’s able to throw into some higher windows and time balls well with his receivers. I’ve done some scouting with Jake’s opponents, and that’s where some decision-making and accuracy flaws begin to show. Still, Jake is a talented thrower with great potential if he chooses to go to a college to develop.
