2023 Team Preview: Madras

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We are getting closer to the start of the high school football season in Oregon, which means it is time to look at the football programs around the state. Oregon high school football is in a fantastic place, and I could not be more excited to help educate our readers on the programs they will be watching on Friday nights. The team next up is Madras High School.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The White Buffaloes are led by Coach Judd Stutzman, who is heading into his second season as the head coach. Coach Stutzman's first season as the leader of this team was impressive as Madras just missed out on the playoffs, finishing with a 4-5 record. If the White Buffaloes can improve their record by one game, they should be a playoff team this season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After a solid year, Coach Stutzman is not entirely satisfied. When asked how he thinks the season will go, Coach Stutzman wrote, "I think the upcoming season is another opportunity for our team to compete and strive to meet our standards." That sounds like a coach who expects his team to be competitive and ultimately end up in the playoffs when the regular season concludes.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Coach Stutzman recognized they lost some talent from last years team, but is not too worried about the underclassmen stepping up. Coach Stutzman wrote, "We are replacing a lot of seniors from last year that were major contributors to both sides of the ball.  We have guys who are ready to step up and try to fill the voids that those players filled last year.  Myself and the rest of the coaching staff are excited to watch some younger players step up and make a name for themselves." </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>List of All-League players that have departed the program:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>P Johan Poland (Honorable Mention)</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Although he expects the younger guys to step up and become contributors to the team's success, Coach Stutzman expects his upperclassmen to lead this team to meet their standards. Coach Stutzman had this to say about his center, u0022Mike will continue to play center for us this year and (will) also be a strong player at DT. He would have been a first/second-team OL. Coach Stutzman had this to say about Skytus, u0022Skytus was an all-league LB last year and played some H back (halfback/running back) for us on offense. The playoffs were just out of reach last season, but that should be the goal this year, as they have some impressive talent returning.
