Acadiana, Carencro, Vermilion Catholic, St. Edmund and Westminster Christian (Lafayette) all visited.
Check out a handful of notes on a few of the players who stood out.
Sam Altmann Sam Altmann 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB St. Thomas More | 2024 State LA — 6-2, 195 QB — St. Thomas More (2024)
The Cougars’ rising senior quarterback navigated the ups and downs this past season of a battle for the starting role, following former star Walker Howard’s big shoes and acclimating to his role leading the offense — all well enough to lead a state championship run, including an impressive exclamation-mark rally in the title game that featured some absolute darts into tight windows. Altmann is working through this offseason with surer footing, more confidence and a stronger frame
Chantz Babineaux Chantz Babineaux 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Carencro | 2026 State LA — 6-0, 185 ATH — Carencro (2026)
The explosive Carencro athlete is one of the early star’s of Louisiana’s 2026 class after a freshman season working in his natural long-term positions as a wide receiver and safety. But with former quarterback Chantz Ceaser graduated and off to college — the short road to hometown Louisiana (Lafayette) — it’s now Babineaux’s chance to lead to Bears’ offense. He showed plenty of dynamic ability with the ball in his hands this past fall to have a good sense of the threat he brings rushing the ball from the backfield. And he was hitting enough throws, including deep throws, Tuesday to provide some notable intrigue and balance when the team wants to take to the air.
Russell Babineaux Russell Babineaux 5'9" | 160 lbs | ATH Acadiana | 2025 State LA — 5-9, 160 ATH — Acadiana (2025)
and Caden DiBetta Caden DiBetta 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Acadiana | 2025 State LA — 6-0, 195 QB — Acadiana (2025)
The Wreckin’ Rams are one of Louisiana’s most run-heavy offenses, but looked good working on their passing timing. Russell Babineaux Russell Babineaux 5'9" | 160 lbs | ATH Acadiana | 2025 State LA is a quick, sharp enough route-runner to bring big-play ability to any scheme, and second-year starter DiBetta was good spreading the ball around and making some accurate throws on roll-outs. And even in the 7-on-7 format, Acadiana’s calling-card physicality shone through on some pass breakups on defense and contested catches and runs after the catch on offense.
Gavin Duplechin Gavin Duplechin 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB St. Thomas More | 2025 State LA — 5-11, 150 DB — St. Thomas More (2025)
Even with heavy turnover in the receiving corps, the Cougars’ offense appears poised to be notably potent once again. The development of the secondary will be among the big areas to watch as the team tries to win at a potentially state-title level once again. Duplechin snatched a pair of interceptions in a matchup against Acadiana alone, a nice sight in June for the rising junior expected to be among the leaders in the group.
Brock Stomps Brock Stomps 6'1" | 170 lbs | ATH Westminster (Lafayette) | 2025 LA — 6-1, 170 QB/ATH — Westminster Christian (Lafayette) (2025)
The young, building Chargers are entering their second season of 11-man football, but already have a couple of players with some college opportunities coming their way. Stomps, the son of coach Jim Stomps, has enjoyed a nice growth spurt up to about 6-foot or 6-foot-1 and picked up recent offers from Bluefield, Lyon College and John Melvin. His and the team’s development will be notable to monitor these next two falls.
