DURANGO, CO -- If only [player_tooltip player_id='275042' first='Drew' last='Perez'] had been in football shape (insert laugh track here).

Bloomfield's dynamic rising senior, coming off a sensational junior campaign in which he helped lead the Bobcats to the Class 4A title, was the standout performer in Saturday's Fort Lewis College 7x7 Tournament.

Perez looked in mid-season form as he made numerous big plays on both sides of the ball to spur the Bobcats to the tournament title, utilizing his speed and elite athleticism throughout.

“Drew is not really in football shape, to be honest with you,” Bloomfield coach Mike Kovacs told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “He's been playing baseball the last three months. Matter of fact, he had a game yesterday. We share him with summer baseball. He's just an all-around athlete. He does great work, he's great in the weight room and has a great attitude. He carries that moxie you want to see in a senior.”

Last season Perez made 60 receptions for 1,102 yards and 17 TD on offense while totaling 49 tackles and 8 interceptions on defense. In short, he never came off the field (except, perhaps, for special teams) and made a ton of plays to help his team when he was on it.

Who was the second-best player at Saturday's tournament? Aztec ATH [player_tooltip player_id='275041' first='Baylor' last='Seabolt'], a weight room warrior who played wide receiver and linebacker for the Tigers. An unusual combination, for sure, but Seabolt possesses the speed, strength and mobility to excel at both positions.

Several colleges have expressed interest in Seabolt, including FLC, New Mexico Highlands, Eastern New Mexico, Middlebury and Carleton.

Bloomfield will compete at Saturday's Bernalillo 7x7 Tournament. “Today showed us what we need to work on. Our players know,” Kovacs said.
