Continue ReadingDon Bosco had a great 2022 season. Finishing 9-3 on the year, Don Bosco went on a 7 game winning streak before falling to Bergen Catholic in the final round of the NJSIAA tournament. It’s no surprise to anyone that Don Bosco is going into 2023 with another loaded roster. We are familiar with players like Logan Bush Logan Bush 5'10" Don Bosco Prep | 2024 NJ , Lamont Lester and Jordan Thomas Jordan Thomas 6'6" | 265 lbs | DL Don Bosco | 2024 State NJ by now, however, this article will shine the light on players that will be stepping up in 2023 and playing a bigger role for this program. Here are 5 players to keep an eye out for on Don Bosco that deserve our attention.
Hunter Ditrano-Smith
Hunter Ditrano-Smith
Hunter Ditrano-Smith is a a punishing lead blocker for a talented running back room. A 2025 fullback, Hunter has a quick first step and initiates the hit to seal off defenders to make big running lanes for the ball carriers. He’ll keep his feet churning and drive the defenders backwards as he clears the path for his back. With a recent visit to Syracuse this past spring, I look forward to seeing Hunter being utilized more in the pass game in 2023.
Charles LaMorte
Charles LaMorte
Charles LaMorte is looking to step up in a big way in 2023. The soon to be junior QB will be filling some big shoes, but from what he was able to do at the JV level for Don Bosco indicates he is extremely prepared. A QB with an extremely quick release, Charlie throws a pretty ball with the appropriate amount of air underneath it. He is patient in the pocket and lets the play develop, never getting too eager to let the ball loose too early. One of the most impressive skills Charlie displays is his ability to throw on the run. He is able to square up his shoulders as he rolls outs and still remains extremely accurate. With recent visits to Penn State, Boston College, and Michigan this spring, Charlie will look to show off his talent in 2023.
Bobby Mays
Bobby Mays
Charlie LaMorte Charlie LaMorte 6’2″ | 210 lbs | QB West Orange | 2025 NJ has a stud target to throw to in Bobby Mays. Bringing in 291 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns last season, Bobby is a tall receiver with an athletic build, making it easy for the QB to throw it his way. With a quick first step, Bobby is able to fly by the corner and use his hands to catch away from the body or catch the ball in traffic. Bobby is a reliable target in the end zone, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his stats doubled in 2023.
Conor Cosgrove
Conor Cosgrove
Conor Cosgrove is one of the Don Bosco players that deserves a lot more recognition. Bringing in 30 total tackles, forcing 2 fumbles, and intercepting the ball twice, Conor is a ball hawking safety for the team. A straight up play maker, Conor has the instincts necessary to play the safety position and to fly from sideline to sideline to cover the entire field. He is an extremely reliable tackler and is always digging at the ball to force it loose. Watch his highlights and you will find him stripping the ball from a receiver right before they get to the end zone. Clean in both the pass and run game, look for Conor to make a big impact on the field this fall.
