The college camp circuit is winding down, and prospects across the state are making their decisions and refocusing more singularly on their upcoming high school seasons.
Here’s a look at nine student-athletes who shared their plans this past weekend, spanning from Friday into Monday.
Charles Gurley III Charles Gurley III 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB St. Augustine | 2024 State LA — 6-2, 180 DB — St. Augustine (2024) —> South Alabama
The wiry, physical cornerback had initially started zeroing in on mid-August commitment plans before locking in June 23 with the Jaguars. South Alabama had been among the most heavily involved programs throughout the spring and summer for the underrated prospect, including having him visit on multiple occasions, and managed to land his pledge over Indiana, Southeastern Louisiana, Marshall and others.
Michael Turner Michael Turner 6'1" | 145 lbs | ATH John Curtis | 2024 State LA Jr. — 6-1, 165 WR/DB — John Curtis (2024) —> LSU
LSU’s wide receiver recruiting board and 2024 class developed swiftly in mid-June with a pair of in-state prospects earning offers at on-campus events back-to-back weekends and then committing days later. Kylan Billiot Kylan Billiot 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Terrebonne | 2024 State LA of Terrebonne earned his offer June 10 and committed June 14, followed by Turner receiving his offer June 17 and committing June 23. The Patriots’ two-way and multisport star has enjoyed one of the spring’s biggest recruiting explosions as not only the Tigers, but nearly 30 programs fell in love with his speed, smooth athleticism, ball skills and overall ceiling. His LSU offer came after an extended workout with wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton — with coach Brian Kelly and several other staffers on hand — but he also boasts notable potential as a cornerback.
Daniel Beale Daniel Beale 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Catholic (Baton Rouge) | 2024 State LA — 6-2, 190 QB — Catholic (Baton Rouge) (2024) —> Louisiana (Lafayette)
The highest-ranked quarterback in Louisiana’s rising senior class will be staying in-state for college after kicking off a hectic Sunday with his announcement of his commitment to the Ragin’ Cajuns an hour away in Lafayette. The Class 5A all-state passer has continued to develop from a freshman forced into action and showing impressive poise beyond his years to a bigger playmaker controlling the game and making some throws on the move. He would continue the program’s run of quarterbacks from the capital city with Levi Lewis (Scotlandville) in 2017 and Zeon Chriss (Madison Prep) in 2022.
Javion White Javion White 5'11" | 180 lbs | ATH Franklin Parish | 2024 State LA — 5-11, 180 DB/WR — Franklin Parish (2024) —> Tulane
The underrated Patriots’ star became the Green Wave’s latest notable recruiting win with his decision to stay in-state despite offers from Missouri, Memphis and others. White saw his recruitment kick off and pick up this spring and only needed a few days of mulling after receiving the Tulane offer before making his move. In addition to the home-state opportunity and upward trajectory of the Green Wave program, a growing rapport and trust with cornerbacks coach J.J. McCleskey and the potential to play corner were notable factors of consideration.
Anthony Robinson III Anthony Robinson III 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Destrehan | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 185 ATH — Destrehan (2024) —> Ole Miss
The Rebels continued their strong “#Boot2Sip” run with the smart, explosive and versatile athlete, projected primarily as a safety at the next level, now with championship pedigree. Robinson joined Natchitoches Central lineman Joseph Cryer Joseph Cryer 6'4" | 290 lbs | OL Natchitoches Central | 2024 State LA , Edna Karr wide receiver Rahji Dennis Rahji Dennis 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Edna Karr | 2024 State LA and John F. Kennedy cornerback Bernard Causey Bernard Causey 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB John F. Kennedy | 2024 State LA with his pledge. His SEC commitment over a slew of other options that included TCU, Notre Dame and Miami most notably marked another nice addition for coach Lane Kiffin and new defensive coordinator Pete Golding, a Louisiana native.
Tristan Santoro Tristan Santoro 6'6" | 270 lbs | OL Evangel Christian | 2024 State LA — 6-6, 270 OL — Evangel Christian (2024) —> Baylor
Baylor had extended Santoro’s first scholarship offer this past August and remained heavily involved in his recruitment throughout the school year. And, on Sunday, the Bears landed the big offensive tackle, an athletic multisport standout who has quietly looked like a quiet, potential diamond in the rough — at least in terms of the coverage he has seemed to receive compared to his intriguing talent — of Louisiana’s rising senior class.
Harry Beacham Harry Beacham 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB University Lab | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 200 LB — University Lab (2024) —> Navy
The Midshipmen landed a smart, physical leader and linebacker who has been a productive tackling machine of a standout on his Cubs’ defenses from an early age. Beacham chose Navy over a strong list of options that included other service academies, Ivy Leagues and other notable academic institutions, in-state and out-of-state Group-of-Five programs and a preferred walk-on opportunity at Ole Miss.
Moses Gray Jr. Moses Gray Jr. 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB St. Augustine | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 205 RB — St. Augustine (2024) —> Marshall
Former LSU defensive back Chevis Jackson, now Marshall’s co-defensive coordinator, helped the Thundering Herd dip into the Boot for a commitment from Gray, a running back who had a strong junior campaign and is expected by his Purple Knights to show up even bigger this upcoming season. Gray is a physical back with some good burst who has worked this offseason to continue becoming a more consistent receiving threat. Marshall became his first offer this spring and earned the Monday announcement on the heels of a weekend visit.
Tate Hamby Tate Hamby 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Ouachita Christian | 2024 State LA — 6-1, 170 DB/WR — Ouachita Christian (2024) —> Vanderbilt
Another Monday announcement saw Vanderbilt land an intriguing, largely under-the-radar prospect in the Eagles’ star, a four-sport athlete and three-phase playmaker in the football team’s latest state championship run. The state champion long-jumper projects most likely as a safety at the next level, but has also been a notable pass-catcher and returner at Ouachita Christian.
