As 2023 high school schedules roll out here are the locations that should be expected to host if the show was reciprocated on the high school level.
August 25 – Oxford @ Lafayette
One of the biggest rivalries in the state of Mississippi moves to week 1 for the 2023 campaign. It is no secret that 2022 was not what Oxford had anticipated but they did still manage to knock off their county rival, Lafayette. Anthony Hart has a big one on deck for his first game at the helm of the Commodores.
September 1 – Starkville @ West Point
Year in and year out this is one that everyone in the state looks forward to. Two powerhouses always in the conversation for a state championship. Stars will be alive under the lights. September 8 – Jefferson Davis County @ Laurel
Over the years it has been proven that Jeff Davis County isn’t afraid to play up in classification. They will do just that at Laurel in the non-division slate. JJ Claiborne JJ Claiborne 6'0" | 215 lbs | RB Jefferson County | 2024 State MS is a very underrated RB that will be on display.
September 15- East Webster @ Baldwyn
There is just something about small town Friday night football and we could not go thru the whole slate without getting to one of the best 1A atmospheres in the state.
September 22 – Ocean Springs @ Picayune
This is big time. Ocean Springs made it to the South State final in 2022. Picayune won it all in the 5A division. Both will be among favorites again in 2023. The Maroon Tide will be appointment viewing with Chris Davis Chris Davis 6'0" | 175 lbs | RB Picayune | 2024 State MS on the offensive side and Jamonta Waller Jamonta Waller 6'2" | 230 lbs | DL Picayune | 2024 State MS on the defensive.
September 29 – Louisville @ Houston
The Wildcats on Louisville are always in the conversation. Houston is led by one of the top o-line prospects in the state in Will Echoles Will Echoles 6'4" | 305 lbs | OL Houston | 2024 State MS and Southern Miss commit at RB Jalen Washington Jalen Washington 5'8" | 190 lbs | RB Houston | 2024 State MS . What a matchup to open 3-4A play.
October 6 – Amory @ Itawamba AHS
Back to back weeks with the Dampeers with Baylor as the head man at Houston and Brooks the head man at Amory. The Panthers want to get back to the State Title game after winning 2 years ago and losing by a point in the North Half Championship last year. IAHS will be led by another difference maker at QB who is starting to turn heads in John Austin Wood.
October 13 – Brandon @ Oak Grove
The Dogs came up just short of a title in 2022. Oak Grove was a favorite going into the year but sputtered a bit. By this point in the division slate it will be time to make a move to the top of the standings. PJ Woodland PJ Woodland 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Oak Grove | 2024 State MS and Caleb Moore Caleb Moore 6'3" | 250 lbs | DL Oak Grove | 2024 State MS will make up one of the best defensives in the state. Landon Varnes Landon Varnes 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Brandon | 2024 State MS will have his work cut out as the signal caller on the other side of the ball.
October 20 – Lake Cormorant @ South Panola
South Panola in 5A could be the first team to truly challenge West Point in the north in ages. The Gators have the best player in the state in Kamarion Franklin Kamarion Franklin 6'6" | 255 lbs | DL Lake Cormorant | 2024 State MS .
October 27 – Corinth @ Clarksdale
A trip to the delta has to be made and what better place than Clarksdale. Patrick Broomfield could be the next great DB to come from the area.
November 2 – Starkville @ Tupelo
These two teams gave us two of the best games in the state last year. Once in the regular season and once in the playoffs. This will be a QB battle for the ages between Petty of Starkville and Jeremiah Harrell Jeremiah Harrell 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Tupelo | 2024 State MS .
