We’ll unveil our next set of rankings and tell you the newest faces you better know. Only, we’re not waiting around for the next season to start.
Below, you’re going to see a few 2025s from across the Palmetto State we believe have everything they need to move into our statewide rankings.
Terrell Thomas Terrell Thomas 5'10" | 190 lbs | ATH Edisto | 2025 State SC LB, Edisto – The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Thomas has a distinct knack for the football. It doesn’t matter if he’s blitzing, backing up into more of a hybrid spot or staying put in the middle of the field. He fights off would-be blockers with ease. It’s why he put up 52 total tackles and five sacks as a sophomore. Considering the only two Cougars with more stops than him last year have now graduated, and Thomas’ importance – and production – will only increase moving forward.
Pedro Reyes Pedro Reyes 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR ACIT | 2025 SC WR, Cardinal Newman – As we’ve noted before, we hold off on ranking players until we’ve seen them play against in-state competition – you know, for comparison’s sake and all that on placement. But we’re smart enough to see Reyes’ (pictured) film from New Jersey (and his slew of NCAA Division-I offers) and realize that Cardinal Newman coach Cory Helms has a top-end receiving threat at his disposal this season. Between quarterback Duncan Skehan Duncan Skehan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Cardinal Newman | 2024 State SC and tailback Cortez Lane Cortez Lane 5'11" | 170 lbs | RB Cardinal Newman | 2024 State SC , the Cardinals have a legit Big 3 ready to roll.
Ladainnian Martin RB, Greer – Consider Martin our big whiff from the last rankings update after he ran for more than 1,200 yards and 19 touchdowns while catching another 150 yards worth of passes during his sophomore campaign. Martin is going to be a marked man in 2023, but with Chase Byrd Chase Byrd 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Greer | 2024 State SC still on the outside, the two stars in the making will take pressure off each other. It might not be every game, but scheming against these two won’t be easy. It makes Martin valuable not just once, but twice over.
Dreshawn Blanding Dreshawn Blanding 6'0" | 180 lbs | LB Scott's Branch | 2025 State SC LB, Scott’s Branch – Scott’s Branch’s leading tackler from last season has continued to look natural even as he’s grown into his 6-foot, 180-pound frame. And if he hits some of his numerical projections next season – when he’s set to become an even more crucial part of this defense – the Eagles will have a junior capable of bringing home all-region and even Class A all-state honors.
Hendrix Beran Hendrix Beran 6'3" | 245 lbs | DL James Island | 2025 State SC DL, James Island – Teams on the Trojans’ schedule in 2023 might want to start game-planning against this team’s front line now. That’s because Beran has developed fast and is looking to make his 2022 season (46.5 tackles, 12 tackles for loss) look like only the beginning. Beran, one of three James Island linemen with a Division-I offer, now stands 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds and is only going to continue to get bigger in the weight room over the next two years. If he even maintains his first-step capabilities, watch out.
