We all remember key moments when kickers make and miss kicks on big stages. My fondest memory of a High School kicker was when I was coaching at York High our kicker made a 45-yard field goal to win a game. High School kickers can be specialized players you get off the soccer team or they could play different positions on the field. They come in all shapes and sizes. Below are some kickers from the 2024 and 2025 classes who should get some College Football looks. This is part 1.
Highlights
Gavin Mentzer Gavin Mentzer 6'1" | 200 lbs | K North Schuylkill | 2025 PA North Schuylkill. Mentzer had a great Sophomore year kicking for North Schuylkill. He made 57/58 on extra points, 5/7 on field goals, and averaged 36 yards on punts as well. Mentzer has good size standing 6’1″ inches tall. He has a strong leg and really shows it on several of the long punts I saw in his film. This was also shown on kickoffs with his big leg. Mentzer has visited Temple University, and Penn State University over the last several months. Mentzer with a strong Junior year should get plenty of College Football offers.
Nick Van Winkle
Nick Van Winkle
Nick Van Winkle North Allegheny. Van Winkle is a good kicker who is consistent on extra points and field goals. He was 25/26 on extra points. He has a strong leg and showed it off when he connected on a 41-yard field goal. He made it with room to space meaning he could have made it from 10 yards farther back. He also connected on a 36-yard field goal. Once North Allegheny got inside the 30 Van Winkle showed he is a good kicker who can make kicks consistently. Van Winkle with a strong Senior year should have a good chance to play College Football.
Ryan Bocklet
Ryan Bocklet
Ryan Bocklet North Penn. Bocklet had a good year kicking for North Penn last year as a Sophomore. He went 2/2 on field goals last year, and 41/41 on extra points. His most impressive kick was the 35-yard field goal he made. He has 5 touchbacks on kickoffs last year. Bocklet has good size standing 6’1″inches tall. Bocklet has a ton of skill. Even though Bocklet did not get a lot of chances he showed he has a lot of potential and is consistently a good kicker. With 2 more years left of kicking I expect Bocklet to get more chances to prove how good of a kicker he is.
Andrew Rice
Andrew Rice
Andrew Rice Cumberland Valley. Rice had a good Sophomore year kicking for Cumberland Valley. He made 21/22 extra points, 7/10 on field goals, and 13 touchbacks on kickoffs. Rice shows he has a strong leg and can be counted on to be accurate as a field goal kicker. The best field goal he made was a 40-yard field goal. He really nailed the kick. He also made one from 39 yards which was impressive as well. Rice showed he is a good kicker and he should only get better with a strong off-season.
