This past Monday, I had the pleasure of attending Doane University’s Air Attack 7v7 Camp, where I got the chance to watch seven teams from different classes compete. From the seven, four teams made it to the final four with a chance to make it to the championships. I will be covering some standout athletes from those top four teams.
I will be starting with the camp champions, the Norris Titans out of Class B. Norris had a great assortment of talent at their skill positions that proved too much for defenses to handle. On top of that, they also had a swarming defense full of rangy athletes. Here are my top standouts from the loaded Norris team.
Jax Gates Jax Gates 6'2" | 170 lbs | ATH Norris | 2024 State NE | 2024 | WR/DB | 6’2″ 175 lbs
– Jax won Offensive MVP honors at the end of the tournament and ended up with an offer from Doane.
– Gates flashed on both sides of the ball, displaying top-tier athleticism, speed, and football IQ.
– On defense, he plays physically with receivers and uses his hands very well to disrupt the receiver’s concentration at the catch-point.
– He’s smooth when changing direction and can break on the ball on a dime.
– Jax has great range that can cover a good chunk of the field.
– On offense, he was reliable on crucial downs and consistent when going up for the ball.
Jarrett Behrends Jarrett Behrends 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Norris | 2025 State NE | 2025 | QB | 6’2″ 200 lbs
– Jarrett would’ve taken my QB of the Camp award with his impressive play all day on Monday.
– What stood out the most to me was Jarrett’s decision-making. Oftentimes, taking the smart, safe pass instead of forcing the ball into tight coverage.
– Very talented arm. Jarrett can make throws to all levels of the field, throws a nice deep ball, and has solid accuracy on the move.
– He doesn’t get stuck on his first read and will progress through his targets to find the open man.
– Quick release once he identifies his best target.
– Very promising 2025 prospect!
Colton Homolka Colton Homolka 6'3" | 195 lbs | ATH Norris | 2024 State NE | 2024 | TE/LB | 6’4″ 195 lbs
– Colton is going to be a great safety blanket target for the Titans this season.
– At 6’4″, he does a great job maximizing his catch radius. Making catches outside of his frame and is able to high-point the ball over defenders.
– Strong through contested catches and stays focused on the ball even with defenders closing in.
– He moves very well for his size and does a good job attacking leverage and finding a way to get open.
– Can’t wait to see him in pads and to check out his blocking.
Eli Holt Eli Holt 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Norris | 2024 State NE | 2024 | LB | 6’2″ 210 lbs
Hudl | Twitter
– Eli’s leadership on defense stood out before anything else. Very vocal on defense, helps teammates get into position, helped rally the defense when they needed to step up.
– He was just as impressive with his play on the field as he moves very well and has a good IQ.
– Eli is quick to identify and call out offensive packages and did a great job covering TEs, RBs, and picking up slot receivers on crossing routes.
– College linebacker size! I wish I would have had the chance to watch him with pads.
John Hood John Hood 5'11" | 150 lbs | DB Norris | 2024 State NE | 2024 | WR/DB | 6’1″ 180 lbs
– Great do-it-all player for the Titans.
– John always seemed to be there when Norris needed a crucial catch or a defensive play.
– On offense, he really impressed with his quickness after the catch. John flashed solid burst and speed after the catch and did a great job adding on extra yards at the end of his catches.
– Defensively, Hood is a quick-twitch defender that can break on the ball very well. Good closing speed.
– He has good length and uses it well when getting his hands up to bat away passes.
