Check out a handful of notes on a few of the players who stood out.
Anthony Robinson III Anthony Robinson III 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Destrehan | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 185 DB/ATH — Destrehan (2024)
The Wildcats’ leader and versatile playmaker, one of Prep Redzone Louisiana’s top 25 prospects in the rising senior class, shared Wednesday that he will be making a commitment announcement this week. Notre Dame has come on strong to join a trio of Ole Miss, TCU and Miami that he had previously said he considered his top three. And while recent visits to the Fighting Irish and, most recently, the Horned Frogs have gone well, Robinson said he considers the Rebels his “highest” school right now.
Dawson Simmons Dawson Simmons 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH St. Augustine | 2024 State LA — 5-11, 180 QB/WR — St. Augustine (2024)
One of the Purple Knights’ senior quarterback tandem, Simmons split some reps at the position with Amare Cooper. But when Simmons wasn’t taking the snaps, he also got some good looks in as a slot receiver, looked sharp running his routes and caught at least one pass from Cooper in the process.
Keith Jones Jr. — 6-4 WR — Edna Karr (2024)
The Cougars’ basketball standout was back with the football team getting reps at wide receiver — as Prep Redzone had first noticed at Southeastern Louisiana’s 7v7 tournament earlier in the month — where he provides the already-strong corps a different weapon with his tall, long frame. Karr went to Jones on back-to-back plays near the goal line at one point for a touchdown and subsequent conversion.
Tyrese Shelby Tyrese Shelby 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB Frederick A. Douglass | 2025 State LA — 5-10, 160 DB — Frederick A. Douglass (2025)
The Bobcats were the new face this week in a field of prominent recent title-winners and title-hopefuls and racked up a slew of their own highlights against the stout competition — including the rising junior defensive back with a mixture of jumping routes and leaping for jump-balls to come away with a handful of interceptions.
Kendrick Joseph Jr. — 5-11, 150 RB/ATH — St. James (2027)
Prep Redzone Louisiana doesn’t officially start listing and ranking a class until Aug. 1 to start its freshman year, but several rising 2027 prospects have been having nice spring and summer performances to warrant some early pub. Consider the references slight sneak previews or teasers of the preseason content to come. With good height and length, big hands and comfort catching the ball all over the field, Joseph has been one of those young standouts to know from the spring 7-on-7 season with the Bootleggers’ youth teams to the college camp circuit and high school 7-on-7 this month. The Wildcats have some great young talent coming through in Joseph, Jakias Villanueva Jakias Villanueva 5'6" | 140 lbs | WR St. James | 2026 State LA (2026 WR), Nolan Zenon Nolan Zenon 6'0" | 170 lbs | LB St. James | 2026 State LA (2026 LB), Amir Broden Amir Broden 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB St. James | 2026 State LA (2026 DB), Jye Blain Jye Blain 5'10" | 160 lbs | ATH St. James | 2027 State LA (2027 RB/S/ATH), Derrick Pittman Jr. Derrick Pittman Jr. 5'8" | 145 lbs | ATH St. James | 2027 State LA (2027 WR/RB/DB) and Peyton Clement Peyton Clement 5'10" | 150 lbs | QB St. James | 2027 State LA (2027 WR/QB) among some early names to know in the rising sophomore and freshman classes.
