In today’s article, we are going to shine the spotlight on some quarterbacks from the class of 2024 to keep an eye on this season. The number of talented quarterbacks in the class of 2024 is eye opening and this has the potential to be a great season of football in Texas.
Damarion McPherson-Frisco Memorial-5’10” 195-Pounds
Damarion McPherson is a quarterback that not only can hurt teams with his arm but his legs as well. He has a good clock in his head, and he knows when to escape the pocket and buy time to make the throw. Meanwhile, he is a quarterback that does an excellent job of keeping his eyes down the field to make the throw. McPherson throws an accurate ball to all areas of the field. He has the potential to open plenty of eyes this fall. In the spring game, he threw for over 250 yards and two touchdowns. I expect a big season from the Frisco Memorial signal caller.
Cam McGuire Cam McGuire 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Woodrow Wilson | 2024 State TX -Woodrow Wilson-6’0” 200-Pounds
The Metroplex has a number of talented signal callers to keep an eye on over the next few seasons. Woodrow Wilson High School quarterback Cam McGuire Cam McGuire 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Woodrow Wilson | 2024 State TX has a strong arm that keeps opposing defenses honest. McGuire does an impressive job of reading coverages and making good decisions with the football. He is another quarterback that does not mind using his legs to extend drives when needed. McGuire has the potential to have a strong 2023 season and open plenty of eyes in the process.
Derek (DJ) Lagway Derek (DJ) Lagway 6'3" | 215 lbs | QB Willis | 2024 State TX -Willis-6’3” 215-Pounds
The future Florida Gator quarterback is one of the most dangerous playmakers in the state of Texas. Lagway does a great job of throwing the football with plenty of accuracy. He has the arm strength to fit the ball into some tight coverages. Meanwhile, Lagway can make plenty of plays with his legs. He has the speed to break into the open field and is shifty enough to make opposing defenders miss. Lagway should light it up this season and give folks a preview of what to expect with the Gators.
Harrison Hackbarth Harrison Hackbarth 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Grapevine | 2024 State TX -Grapevine-6’2” 190-Pound
The Grapevine signal caller is a prospect that does a good job of making good decisions with the football. Hackbarth reads the play well and will not force into a situation where a turnover could happen. He is not afraid to test opposing defenses deep and can fit the ball in to his receivers with accuracy. Hackbarth has good mobility and can move around in the pocket long enough to find his wide receiver. I expect Hackbarth to have a strong season for Grapevine and open up plenty of eyes in the process.
Anderson Lewis Anderson Lewis 6'5" | 185 lbs | QB Lewisville | 2024 TX -Timber Creek-6’5” 185-Pounds
Anderson Lewis Anderson Lewis 6'5" | 185 lbs | QB Lewisville | 2024 TX has excellent size for the quarterback position. He cannot be thought of as simply just a pocket passer. Lewis extends plays and keeps his eyes down the field in order to make the throw. He is an accurate passer with a strong arm that can stretch the field. The ability to create plays and keep plays alive is an impressive facet of his game. He is another class of 2024 prospect that I expect to have a big 2023 football season. Lewis is a quarterback to watch out for this season.
