To prepare for the upcoming season, I have taken the past couple months to preview some of the top talent in certain areas of Missouri. Continuing this trend, I will be starting a “Kansas City Players to Watch” series focusing on the top returning players at each position in Kansas City. After covering the quarterback and running back positions, I will now turn my attention to the top returning wide receivers in Kansas City for the 2023 season.
Alexzander Thompson Alexzander Thompson 6’1″ | 170 lbs | WR Winnetonka | 2024 MO is another incoming wide receiver that has caught my attention. Thompson lines up on the outside where he is able to use his speed and athleticism to his advantage to succeed. He is able to use his speed to run by opposing defensive backs to pose as a threat in the deep passing game. When he is tightly contested, Thompson has shown the ability to use his athleticism to go up and catch passes through traffic. He also has a quick release out of his stance which helps him create early separation from opposing defensive backs. Thompson doesn’t currently hold any offers but he has received some college interest and has the talent to play at the next level.
Highlights
Aaron Rimson VI
Aaron Rimson VI
Another intriguing wide receiver from the 2024 class is Aaron Rimson VI from Liberty College Prep. Aaron lines up on the outside where he is able to use his speed to his advantage to blow by opposing defensive backs in the deep passing game. Rimson is at his best with the ball in his hands in open space. He is used very frequently on short passes and screens due to the fact that he has the speed and elusiveness to turn them into a big play at any given moment. Aaron has also been used as a ball carrier and is a very dangerous return specialist, returning multiple kicks for touchdowns last season. Rimson currently holds offers from Central Methodist and William Jewell, and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play at the next level.
Kam Tate
Kam Tate
Joining Rimson in the Lincoln College Prep passing attack is incoming junior Kam Tate. Tate is a versatile receiver, showing the ability to play on the outside and in the slot. He is a very skilled route runner, using smooth breaks in his routes to create separation from opposing defensive backs. Tate also has the speed to pose as a dangerous deep threat. After the catch, Tate is able to use his speed and elusiveness to his advantage to pick up extra yards. He is also a very reliable blocker, blocking with a ton of physicality and showing the ability to drive his man out of the picture. Kam doesn’t currently hold any offers and is also a very talented basketball player so it remains to be seen what his future holds but he will definitely be a player to keep an eye on over the next two seasons.
To wrap up this list of talented wide receivers, I have incoming sophomore Braylon Agee Braylon Agee 6’3″ | 195 lbs | WR Park Hill | 2026 State MO from Park Hill. Agee made a big impact as a freshman, showing the ability to play on the outside, in the slot, and from the tight end position. He is a big, athletic wide receiver that has shown the ability to pose as a dangerous jump ball threat due to his ability to go up and catch contested passes at their highest point. Braylon is also an impressive route running, showing the ability to run a complete route tree and create separation from defensive backs with smooth breaks in his routes. In the deep passing game, Agee has shown that he has the speed to run by opposing defensive backs. Braylon also plays outside linebacker and is a key piece of Park Hill’s basketball and track teams, so he is a very versatile athlete. Agee doesn’t currently hold any offers but he will be a player to pay close attention to over the next few seasons as he continues to develop.
