Wednesday, New Mexico State jumped into the recruiting fray for both highly regarded prospects.
Literally within a few seconds of each other, Posa and Dyer announced Wednesday that they had been offered by the Aggies. For Posa, it marked his second offer after hometown New Mexico extended an offer last summer. New Mexico State represents Dyer’s first offer.
Both prospects have two more years of high school football ahead of them.
“I thought they were just going to tell me to come to their camp and I was really excited to hear that they wanted to offer me,” Posa told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “
His offer from NM State came after Aggies co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Melvin Rice visited La Cueva High School and spoke with Posa.
“My head coach called me into his office and Coach Rice asked me about this year’s football season, how I did in wrestling this year and asked me what I’m looking forward to this upcoming season,” Posa said.
In addition to being our No. 1 prospect for the 2025 class, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Posa is also a state champion wrestler.
Posa has yet to visit NM State but could in the near future. He is being recruited by the Aggies as a linebacker. He has received camp invitations from Notre Dame, Kansas State, Iowa State, Arizona and Stanford. Texas Tech has expressed interest, and Posa visited Lubbock, TX recently.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Dyer is the likely successor to UNM signee Aidan Armenta Aidan Armenta 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB La Cueva | 2023 State NM at quarterback for the Bears. Last season he filled a variety of roles for La Cueva, including running back, wide receiver and kick returner.
Dyer said he is currently being recruited as an athlete by NM State but he hopes two years of playing quarterback for the Bears at the Class 6A level will prepare him to play that position at the next level.
“By playing quarterback the next two years, I hope I can grow into that position,” Dyer said. “The conversations with the coaches were really good and I feel really comfortable talking to them. Coach Rice is really down to earth and expressed interest in me.”
Dyer’s older brother Deven currently plays for New Mexico State. He signed with the Aggies in 2022. As a result, Cameron Dyer Cameron Dyer 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB La Cueva | 2025 State NM is familiar with Las Cruces and the NM State campus and had previously spoken with many of the Aggie coaches before Wednesday.
“I’ve been there several times and I’ve had a chance to speak with the coaches on those occasions,” Dyer said. “This has been something I’ve been working very hard towards, and I’m more than excited now that I have an opportunity to continue on the family tradition.”
While the offer from NM State is Dyer’s first, New Mexico, UNLV and Yale have expressed interest. Dyer will compete at this weekend’s state track and field meet at the UNM complex in the long jump and 400-meter dash.
