Playing as an independent team located in Ashburn, Virginia, the Patriots in their first year of existence managed a 4-3 overall record. Pretty impressive especially when you look at their opponents being from different parts of the DMV with some of the best athletes in the country. If you have been keeping up with my recruiting updates you might have noticed the new enrollments Virginia Academy has acquired these past couple of weeks. They are building a special brand over there in Ashburn, with eyes on a Championship this fall. Head Coach Obie Woods and his staff are non-stop in the grind to make the Patriots a consistent winner with an extremely tough independent schedule.

Season Outlook:
Head Coach Obie Woods and the rest of his staff are eager for the new season he shared his thoughts below “This is year two of our program and we are off to a great start. Our football culture is based on four pillars, Family, Accountability, Communication, & Toughness. Football is the ultimate simulation of life. We support our brothers on and off the field and our coaches take pride in developing young men. We encourage them to be great STUDENT-athletes, help them build self-confidence, and a “Never-Quit” attitude. We have several great in-state and out-of-state schools on our schedule for this 14-game season (2 Scrimmages) in 2023. We’ve had several players transfer in (plus more to come) and other have expressed interest. We are improving our facilities and growing at a rapid pace. It’s a beautiful thing to be a part of from the ground up!”
You have to admire the passion and effort Coach Woods and company are putting into this new program. While I firmly believe they will be competitive again come fall, the Patriots ceiling may be even higher come 2025 with all the new stars they are bringing into the fold. This is not my prediction I can just see how Virginia Academy is building and come two years from now, expect them to be one of the top schools in the DMV.
