The Prep Red Zone South Carolina team is going to predict every team’s MVP for the 2023 football season. Over the next several weeks, you’re going to be able to read about which player is leading the way for his team. We’ll even give you a whole bunch of highlight films to back up our predictions.

REGION VI-2A
Barnwell Warhorses
Cameron Austin Cameron Austin 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Barnwell | 2025 State SC QB – You can’t understate how much talent the Warhorses lost from last year’s 12-1 squad. From Tyler J Smith Tyler J Smith 6'1" | 200 lbs | RB Barnwell | 2023 State SC to Clay Pender Clay Pender 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Barnwell | 2023 SC to Maurice Odom Maurice Odom 5'11" | 215 lbs | LB Barnwell | 2023 State SC , the list of outgoing seniors is vast. What’s returning, though, is a quarterback and two-sport standout capable to helping this team re-tool from scratch. Austin’s leadership will be the key cog in Barnwell’s entire rebuild, and the rising junior has two years to figure out how to get it right.
Edisto Cougars
Terrell Thomas Terrell Thomas 5'10" | 190 lbs | ATH Edisto | 2025 State SC LB – Thomas chips in at running back, and he’ll likely get more than the 18 carries he had last fall. But what isn’t up for debate is how impactful the 5-foot-10, 190-pound middle linebacker can be on defense. Last season, he was third on the team in total tackles with 52 stops. He also had five tackles for loss, two picks, a forced fumble and a sack. Thomas still has two years of eligibility left, and we believe he’s going to make them count.
Ridgeland Jaguars
Maurice Brown Maurice Brown 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Ridgeland | 2024 State SC QB – The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Brown (pictured) is still a bit raw. That doesn’t evaporate the fact that last year he threw for 1,503 yards and 11 touchdowns and ran for another 971 and eight scores. Ridgeland is more than likely going to fall behind to several of its opponents early during the 2023 season, but Brown is going to get opportunities galore to put up highlight-reel type plays throughout the year.
Wade Hampton Red Devils
Zion Dobson Zion Dobson 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Hampton County | 2024 State SC RB – Dobson has added some weight the last few months, and that’s not a good sign for the rest of Region VI-2A. A rising senior with 26 games of varsity experience, Dobson rushed for 1,065 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2022. He can catch the ball out of the backfield, return kicks and has no issue jumping into the defensive backfield. Dobson was an All-State selection last fall, and he’s as close to a lock to repeat as you’ll find.
Woodland Wolverines
Kam Pringle Kam Pringle 6'7" | 305 lbs | OL Woodland | 2024 State SC OL – We can’t help but think someone will rip us for saying a left tackle is the most valuable player. And we can’t help but feel sorry for that person. Pringle is the best player in the Class of 2024 because he is so dominant. Every snap, you could put members of the Prep Red Zone squad in the backfield and we’d run behind him for a positive gain. Pringle abuses opposing linemen and makes allows the Wolverines room to try new things.
