Here are three quarterback/receiver combinations from Class 4A schools who posted solid offensive numbers during their junior seasons.
Each combination will look to improve on those numbers during their senior seasons.
Kendall Holtzman Kendall Holtzman 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Labette | 2024 State KS , QB, 6’3”, 225, Labette County
Holtzman threw for 2,166 yards and 21 touchdowns during the 2022 season. He completed 62% of his pass attempts during his junior campaign. He has a strong arm and throws the ball on a line. All of his numbers increased from his sophomore season. Holtzman will have serious experience under center by the time his high school career is completed. Holtzman is the No. 130 ranked player in Prep Redzone’s Class of 2024 rankings.
Zavier Phillips, WR, 6’4”, 160, Labette County
Phillips caught six balls for 178 yards and one touchdown. He is a big target on the football field. Basketball might be the sport that offers him his best chance to compete in college. He shoots well from behind the arc. Phillips plays club ball for the Missouri 66ers.
Brady VanDonge Brady VanDonge 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Basehor-Linwood | 2024 State KS , QB, 6’0”, 170, Basehor-Linwood
VanDonge threw for 1,604 yards and 15 touchdowns during the 2022 season. VanDonge has a live arm and accurate touch. He understands routes and where the ball needs to be to give his receiver an advantage. He also carried the ball four times for touchdowns. The Bobcat quarterback is the No. 76 ranked player in the Kansas class of 2024.
Mile Hinkle, WR, 6’4”, 175, Basehor-Linwood
Hinkle made 26 receptions for 295 yards during this junior campaign. He caught two touchdowns. Hinkle is a big target and causes match-up problems for defensive backs and linebackers. Hinkle could bulk up and make a transition to a tight end. He also plays small forward for the Bobcat basketball team.
Trey Carter Trey Carter 5'10" | 185 lbs | ATH Atchison | 2024 State KS , QB, 5’10”, 160, Atchison
Redford threw for 1,302 yards and 14 touchdowns during his junior season. Carter is a dual-threat quarterback who rushed for 438 yards and five touchdowns. He reads the opposing defense well. He has an accurate arm and runs Atchison’s shot-gun offense well. Carter also is an accomplished guard on the basketball court and could be added to a college program in either sport.
Jeter Purdy Jeter Purdy 6'4" | 200 lbs | ATH Atchison | 2024 State KS , ATH, 6’4”, 192, Atchison
Purdy is very athletic and has been clocked running a 4.65 Forty. He made 15 receptions for 400 yards during his junior season and caught six balls for touchdowns. Purdy runs solid routes and has nice hands. He also plays basketball and baseball for the Phoenix. Purdy is ranked No. 140 in the class of 2024.
