The players listed play their roles to near perfection and are key to the teams success with their abilities on the field. These names are definitely some to follow throughout the year.
Carter finds ways to be impactful in a run heavy offense and has learned how to take advantage of his opportunities when they are provided. He is a redzone threat and off of play action it is usually an automatic six. He sells his run blocking well enough to just slip by defenders when they are least expecting it and makes them pay for it. At 6’4 he bullies the secondary on jump balls and shows confident hands, reeling in the some tough throws. In the run game, Carter locates his target, gets to his spot and creates as much space as he can for the runners. He shows good foot work reaching and setting the edge, and knows how to stay locked and engaged on defenders without holding. Carter plays his role to perfection which leads to many victories for his team.
Rhys Phillips
Rhys Phillips
Phillips moves like a receiver in the slot and open field but possesses the strength to pancake backers on run plays. He has good quickness to him, flashing passed safeties on play action and finding himself wide open for big plays. In the flat is where he does a lot of damage. His ability to run after the catch separates him from most. Phillips shows good speed and vision to turn it upfield and get chunks of yards at a time. He is a valuable asset and a constant mismatch wherever he is positioned.
Victor Aderungboye
Victor Aderungboye
Aderungboye proved to be a major issue for most defenses last season. His ability to high point the ball and make big time catches took the life out of some defenses. He showed incredible athletic ability at the position and much versatility, lining up on the line, in the slot, or out wide. His route running mirrored a receivers, and he showed great concentration on contested passes. The game plan seemed to be simple, give the ball to Aderungboye and watch good things happen. We expect him to continue to be a game changer next season and build on what we saw last season.
Kaleb Thomas
Kaleb Thomas
From the start of his tape, you see Thomas’s physicality and the effort he gives for his team. He shows that he can leave his print on a game with or without the ball. If that means being the lead blocker and making space, so be it, he gets it done. Thomas is aggressive and physical at the POA, driving players back as well as trapping players coming too far upfield. Thomas provides a safety net for his quarter back, being a big target and getting himself into weak spots of a defense. Down the seam is where he is lethal. His speed gets him passed the second level and he is too big for the secondary to cover. He is a reliable target on third downs and has the awareness to know where the sticks are. It is only up from here for Thomas as he continues to develop into a top talent at the position.
Kordell Rodgers
Kordell Rodgers
The Bulldogs have themselves a special player at the position in Rodgers. They have a smooth, athletic route runner with some good twitch who will drive defenders back 10 yards when asked. Rodgers is a weapon. Strong hands, will set the edge, and moves very well in space. He is a quarterbacks dream target with the size and ability to get open. In the run game, which was one of the best in the state last season, Rodgers showed that he can spring open some big runs with his blocking, especially downfield. He can lock on and sustain his blocks without holding which proved to be extremely valuable for the team last year. We cannot wait to see what he does for the summer as well as next season.
