Continue ReadingIOWA CITY, Iowa – The in-state 2024 Class was strong. The group behind it has gotten off to a good start, a sign that the overall talent pool in Iowa is rising.
Scouts at Prep Red Zone offer up a great, extensive list of ’25s. I’m guessing plenty of these names you’ll read about in this series will be on it.
Here’s the fifth installment (first four linked above):
Cael Bruning, QB, Spencer – Bruning scored 19 touchdowns (16 passing, 3 rushing) as a sophomore on the junior varsity in 2022. His huddle highlights show a signal caller with a quick drop and release. He looks accurate on deep balls and can throw on the move. He’s really good at fitting the ball into tight windows, especially across the middle of the field.
Diame Lipanda, OL, Iowa City High – At 6-foot-4, 314 pounds, Lipanda certainly possesses the requisite size to play at the next level. In the limited film available, he moves the weight around very well and holds his blocks through the whistle. He keeps his hands inside while pushing around defenders. There’s a clip of Lipanda displaying good athleticism reaching the second level and paving the way.
Ahman Langton Ahman Langton 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR MOC-Floyd Valley | 2025 State IA , DB/WR, MOC-Floyd Valley – Langton (6-0, 160) looked solid playing defensive back on his varsity film. He changes directions well and moves his hips fluidly. His junior varsity film offered the possibility of him lining up on offense at the next level. He runs crisp routes, and goes and gets it. He also brings return skills on special teams to the table. I like the defensive back highlights right now but am interested to see how he develops at receiver.
Jacob Doyle Jacob Doyle 6'1" | 210 lbs | RB Cedar Rapids Kennedy | 2025 State IA , RB/ATH, Cedar Rapids Kennedy – Doyle (6-1, 205) already owns a solid frame with room to grow. He flows well with his blockers and shows shiftiness, especially for a bigger back. The speed is there as he ran on Kennedy’s 4×100 at the Drake Relays this year. He proved he’s agile at the Seneca Wallace camp. He’s also competing in basketball and baseball.
Gavin Kramer Gavin Kramer 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Northeast | 2025 State IA , ATH, Northeast – Kramer (6-1, 180) accounted for 30 touchdowns as a sophomore. He threw for 19, ran for 10 and delivered a Pick-6. His athleticism pops off his highlights, mostly when he’s making would-be tacklers miss in the open field. He cuts sharply and quickly then kicks it into another gear. He moves around on defense, showing an aptitude for seeing the field and diagnosing plays.
Koby Chanthalavanh, ATH, Ottumwa – Chanthalavanh (5-8, 155) isn’t going to run over a lot of opponents but shows he can be tough to catch and take down if they do. He averaged 9.4 yards per carry and 17.6 yards a catch. He picked off three passes and delivered 22 solo stops. The Bulldogs line him up behind the right tackle. He runs routes or takes handoffs out of the spot. He accelerates through openings and also makes defenders miss. He reads the ball well from the secondary.
DeShawn Long DeShawn Long 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Ames | 2025 State IA , ATH, Ames – It takes piecing together clips from his sophomore season and watching freshman highlights to see Long’s talents. A 10th-grade highlight package after leading the state’s sophomores in receptions (57) during six games in ’22 would be excellent. He also averaged 9.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals per game as a sophomore in big school basketball.
