Prep Redzone takes a look…
BJ Jones – ATH – Lanier County
A dynamic two-way player with big-time ball skills and an impressive vertical, there isn’t much Jones can’t do on the football field. Consistently one of the best athletes on the field at all times, he can play receiver, running back, defensive back, and also help on special teams. A true do-it-all type of player, Jones flashed big play ability and D1-caliber talent on a weekly basis last fall, and earned a new offer this week from Florida Atlantic. At receiver last year as a sophomore, the Lanier County playmaker caught a team-leading 28 passes for 362 yards and four touchdowns. He showed a large catch radius and the ability to win jump-ball situations. Defensively, Jones made 29 tackles and picked off five passes, showing he’s one of the biggest playmakers from the secondary across Georgia for the 2025 class. Look for his offer list to grow sooner than later along with a giant junior season in 2023.
Grant Thompson Grant Thompson 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB North Atlanta | 2025 State GA – ATH – North Atlanta
A hard-hitting defensive back in Atlanta, Thompson is a tough and physical cornerback prospect who also knows how to cover. Just a sophomore, Thompson has a long frame and for some reason, is still flying under the radar. The top-notch cornerback earned a new offer from Akron this week, but he should have a lot more after the way he played last season. He reads the quarterback well, and closes quickly on the receiver. He’s also a sure tackler, making him one of the more reliable sophomore defensive backs in the area. He’s only going to get better, making him a true under the radar cornerback prospect who could have a breakout junior season in the fall.
Evan Haynes – ATH – Fellowship Christian
A long, athletic wide receiver on the rise at 6-foot-3 185-pounds, Haynes is a big-play machine when the ball comes his way. Playing for a program that predominantly runs the ball, Haynes was an easy go-to option in the passing game due to his length, ball skills, and big-play potential down the field. He’s great after the catch and can out-run most defenders in the area. One of the better athletes in the region, Haynes is a two-way player who can turn around and make a secure tackle on defense. He tracks the ball well in the air and knows how to come down with a tough grab over his shoulder. Just a sophomore, Haynes showed D1-caliber ability and earned his first offer this week from the in-state Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He’s a player on the rise, and his recruitment could be in thee very beginning stages. Look for this standout playmaker from Roswell to have a possible breakout season in 2023.
Javen Parker Javen Parker 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB East Paulding | 2025 State GA -East Paulding
We’ve written about Parker as an “under the radar” back before, but it’s hard to call him that seeing that his recruitment could be close to taking off. The talented sophomore showed good burst, wiggle, and the ability to stay on his feet last season as a sophomore. At 5-foot-9 190-pounds, Parker has a quick feet and a natural feel for the position. He shows good vision and knows how to burst through the line of scrimmage when given some space to run. He can bounce off tackles but knows how to make defenders miss as well. In 2022, Parker rushed 188 times for 1,048 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 105 yards per game. He’s still flying under the radar somewhat, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see more offers come his way. He has the chance to be one of the more productive backs in the area and hopes to lead East Paulding to a big season next fall.
