Summer camps are great opportunities for prospects to get in front of college coaches and show their abilities. I think the young men featured below are going to thrive this summer in that setting and could pick up some offers from it. I’ll most certainly be keeping a watchful eye on them throughout the months of June & July.
If you have someone you think I need to see, please DM them to me at @hsfbscout on Twitter!
WR: Antonio Russell Antonio Russell 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Eisenhower | 2024 State IL , 6’1″ 180, Eisenhower
A deceptive route runner that can hit the turbos after the catch and shows dynamic change of direction with the ball in his hands. He easily tracks the deep ball over the shoulder and has exceptional burst at the top of his route.
OL: Lucas Austin Lucas Austin 6'7" | 250 lbs | OL Sterling | 2024 State IL , 6’7″ 250, Sterling
A raw prospect with heavy hands, that moves like a tight end but plays with an edge to him. Austin has outstanding feet in pass protection, he mirrors rushers with ease, and has impressive bend for a big man.
TE: Jason Fowler, 6’5″ 235, Niles West
Fowler to me has a very high ceiling and is just beginning to scratch the surface. He’s got good size, he’s surehanded, is a well-versed inline blocker, he plays through the whistle, and has great concentration in traffic.
ATH: Ryan Williams Ryan Williams 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Chicago Hope Academy | 2024 IL , 6’1″ 175, Hope
On offense, Williams is lightning in a bottle, he’s extremely creative with the football, he shows good speed, precise vision, and is a brilliant return man. On the defensive side, he’s instinctive, knows how to bait quarterbacks, and will come up & tackle in run support.
DE: Landon Lauter, 6’5″ 225, Glenbrook North
Landon has a 6’8″ wing span, he shows a clean get-off, he can quickly disengage as a rusher, and will manhandle tight ends at the point of attack. If he can’t get to the quarterback his hands immediately go up looking to swat away passes. He’s even got a strong bullrush that can cause serious penetration.
LB: Ben Cooper, 6’3″ 200, Maine West
Cooper has a high football IQ, he’s extremely aggressive taking on blocks, is quite rangy, and knows how to find the holes in blocking schemes & trigger instantaneously. He knows how to use the gator roll tackle when out-leveraged, he speeds his feet on tackle attempts and plays with his pads square to the line of scrimmage.
