This state has produced some of the best talent at the college and professional levels for years. For a majority to the premier athletes who have come out of Texas and into the next level, their journey to the top started at the middle school level. Having said that, here are some of the Lone Star State’s top athletes who are about to become some of the biggest names in high school football at both a state and national level.
Jayden George Jayden George 5’7″ | 165 lbs | RB Denton Guyer | 2027 TX is a running back out of the Denton-Area whose stock has been making some big jumps over this spring. Jayden has collected several camp invites after a big 2022 football season and has made the most of them with some big performances at each of them. The 5’7 ball carrier has a wirey running style that makes it very difficult for anyone to bring him down before he gains a solid chunk of yards. Jayden runs with low shoulders and with the strength to have defenders just bounce right off of him. With the overall running capability that Jayden has, it looks like he is going to continue to be a force in the future as a member of the powerhouse Denton Guyer football program. Look for George to dominate the pinnacle of Texas High School football in the near future.
Highlights
Logan Davis Logan Davis 5’10” | 140 lbs | WR TX is just a flat-out athlete that you need to know about before he hits the high school landscape. The 5’10 H-Town product can mix it up between cornerback and wide receiver and is a proven big-play machine. At wideout, Logan can expose defense with is route running and speed. Logan can create space with his pure change of direction, and has the break away speed to take the ball to the house on every opportunity that he has. With his dynamic ball skills, Logan has shown to make some pretty exciting catches that make you think “Did he just do that?” Overall, Jayden is a very exciting wideout that has shown early on that he has the potential to become the ‘complete package’ that every coordinator would love to have as a receiver.
Kason Sanders
Kason Sanders
Kason Sanders is a sneaky playmaker who can generate some big plays on both sides of the ball. The 5’7 Grandview, Texas product has some of the key attributes to make any slot-type receiver dangerous. Kason has an electric burst of speed that is unmatched when he has the ball in his hands. From bubble routes to slot fades, Kason was a wide range of routes in his repertoire that make him one of the more dynamic wideouts in this class. One of my favorite things that I have seen from Kason is the level of nastiness that he plays with. While other receivers take run plays off, Kason loves to get his hands dirty and put edge defenders in the dirt when he has the chance. If Kason continues to develop his speed and plays with the grit that has been playing with, he is going to be a highly sought-after athlete at the next level.
Yogi Martin Jr. Yogi Martin Jr. 5’6″ | 155 lbs | RB Cypress Springs | 2027 TX is another top-tier running back coming out of the state of Texas. The Houston-Area product has a unique collection of skills that make him an absolute headache to prepare for on the defensive side of the ball. Yogi is a smooth runner who never wastes any motion when he is coming out of the backfield. With very precise and direct movements as a back, Yogi only needs one cut to get out of the backfield and then does some damage. He also has the power and balance to drop a shoulder through a defender when he is really getting downhill. All of this should come has no surprise as he is also trending towards being one of the top track stars in this class as well. With Yogi recently recording an 11.67 100m dash time, it is clear that he has incredible straight-line speed. Overall, Yogi is one of the more impressive athletes that I have seen out of the state of Texas. Look for him to have a breakout high school career in the future.
Hugo Smith Hugo Smith 6’0″ | 180 lbs | LB TX is another all-around athlete to keep an eye on heading into the future. The 6ft Austin-Area athlete splits time at both running back and linebacker, and plays both very well. Hugo truly excels at linebacker, and seemingly commands the field whenever he is out there. Thanks to his experience at running back, Hugo has the side-to-side speed that allows him to cover a large portion of the field within those first 5-7 yards. In coverage, Hugo tracks with the quarterback’s eyes and seemingly stalks where the ball is going. Once the ball is thrown, he has the speed to jump the ball and intercept it and take the ball the other way. Hugo is also a very physical tackler who has no problem driving people into the dirt. Just from what I have seen from Hugo, it is evident that he is one of those high-upside kids who is going to make a big jump at the next level. I am very excited to see where his career takes him in the future.
