In this article, I wanted to examine the play of five underrated quarterbacks who have the ability to command an offense at the next level, regardless of the criticisms against them.
Koen Zeltmann Koen Zeltmann 6’0″ | 160 lbs | QB St. Francis Borgia | 2024 MO is a two-sport athlete who has been instrumental in St. Francis Borgia’s recent success. Koen shows the natural skills as a runner to be a dual-threat in college. Keep an eye on the athletic passer as the year goes on.
Koen’s anticipation shows consistently throwing well-timed slants in between tight zone coverage. Accuracy shows in good touch when throwing off-balance. Good vision shows evading traffic in the run box on designed quarterback runs, while Koen’s track speed shows escaping down the sidelines for chunk plays as a ball carrier.
Christian Schaaf Christian Schaaf 5’11” | 180 lbs | QB St Vincent | 2024 MO is hungry to get back on the field after a first-round playoff exit in 2022. Look for St. Vincent’s accurate passer to receive more regional attention as the year goes on.
Christian’s athleticism gets displayed in his mobility behind the line of scrimmage, but his real ability to extend plays shows with his eyes out of the pocket. Christian’s good touch shines as he leads receivers over the middle throwing off-balance in the face of pressure. Toughness shows in Christian’s finish as a ball carrier and willingness to complete downfield throws with pass rushers in his face.

Carter shows next level arm strength launching the ball over forty yards downfield while off-balance and on the move. Speed and elusiveness displayed on QB draw plays highlight Carter’s dual-threat ability. Carter’s mobility shows escaping pressure, while good extend ability gets displayed creating with his legs and arm when forced out of the pocket. Carter flashes good accuracy on touch passes that come off of rollout action.
Peyton Baker Peyton Baker 6’1″ | 170 lbs | QB Gallatin | 2024 MO is an experienced quarterback for Gallatin High School. I am surprised the good-sized quarterback has not been recruited by more programs within the region. Keep an eye on the two-sport athlete as he heads into his senior year.
Peyton’s arm strength shows leading receivers vertically down the opposite sideline. Good accuracy and poise get displayed when Peyton calmly delivers touch passes with defenders in his face. Peyton’s mobility shows escaping pressure, while good athleticism gets further displayed making defenders miss in the open field.
Sal Caldarella Sal Caldarella 5’11” | 165 lbs | QB Blue Springs | 2024 State MO looks to continue his quarterbacking success at Grain Valley High School. Sal was invited to junior days at Augustana and Upper Iowa University. Look for the talented passer to receive more regional attention as the year progresses.
Sal’s mobility shows stepping up and evading defenders with ease in the pocket while athleticism shines as a runner in the open field. Sal shows his accuracy and arm strength on the run when delivering a well-positioned ball to receivers in flood concepts. Sal’s poise and accuracy shows delivering balls over the middle into tight windows while standing tall in the face of pressure.
