Tyler Payne
A dynamic dual threat quarterback and game changing defensive back are two ways to describe Mr. Payne. Returning for the Wolverines this season, Payne is just beginning to scratch the surface of his talents. When he is operating under center this young man does a great job of taking what the defense gives him. He is also very good at reading the pocket and has top notch speed to escape elite pass rushers. Where I think he will play at the next level is at defensive back, just watching the 3 games he appeared at corner for Woodgrove last year showed me why. While he is certainly a talented quarterback, his presence in the Wolverines secondary goes a long way. For Woodgrove to advance further in the playoffs, his role will need to more defined, judging by his tape you can see he is more than ready to step up.

Luke Jenkins
Luke Jenkins
A big time target who the Wolverines use in a variety of ways in their run first offense. A superb stalk blocker at receiver, Jenkins should carve out a bigger role offensively this upcoming fall. Standing at 6’3 with good speed you can see why the likes of James Madison and UPENN have already begun their interest in him. This kid can make plays when targeted offensively, when he is not though do not expect to watch him mope on the field. He is a team first player and you can see the pride he takes in his blocks and mission he takes on every special teams rep.

Max Randolph
Max Randolph
The All state defensive lineman extraordinaire returns to Independence looking to wreak more havoc in 2023. Whether it was at defensive tackle or end Randolph was constantly in his opponents backfield accounting for 6 sacks and 13 tackles for losses! A long armed strong defensive lineman who can also exceed at Tight End (6 touchdowns in 2022), its hardly a surprise that he has offers from Miami, Virginia Tech and West Virginia with more coming. This two sport athlete Randolph will certainly climb up our state power rankings which are expected to update next month.

Mickey Keller

While the Independence Tigers lost star running back Clay Ash Clay Ash 5’9″ | 190 lbs | RB Independence | 2024 State VA via him transferring to IMG Academy, this will give more opportunities for Keller. The all district running back/kickoff returner had nearly 1,000 all purpose yards himself a year ago. Love watching this kid run with the football he has tremendous vision and you better not tackle him high or he’ll make you pay. With Ash gone, do not be surprised if Keller leads the District in rushing yards this season, he is built for it!

Zion Trump
Zion Trump
A crisp route runner who has top notch speed, at 6’1 you can see why the interest in Trump is continuing to grow. Trump is a student of the game and can beat you on a short or long passing route with his stride and deception. If Riverside wants to improve from last seasons 2-8 record, they need to make this young man a priority on their offense. When not making plays on the football field the kid is dominating the classroom boasting a modest 3.7 GPA.
