The recruiting process can at times be overly saturated causing some to get overlooked. Later on those same athletes shock-packed stadiums leaving onlookers asking, “Where did that guy come from all of a sudden?” The fact is that most of them have been hiding in plain sight the entire time. Let’s take a look at a few.
OUTSIDE LINEBACKER •6’3″ | 220 LBS I CLASS OF 2024 @ CONROE | CONROE, TX
Mitch Melton Mitch Melton 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Conroe | 2024 State TX has been a linebacker name on the rise in recent weeks. The 6’3 220-pounder has recently been awarded 3 stars and added Harvard to his mounting list of offers. Brains and brawn in a football build that contains and overflowing cup of tenacity would accurately describe the fuss over Melton. Look for Melton to come out of the Spring with great momentum leading into the senior season.
SAFETY •6’1″ | 185 LBS I CLASS OF 2024 @ FORNEY | FORNEY, TX
Aaron Flowers Aaron Flowers 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Forney Highschool | 2024 State TX is a “Hit Stick” at the defensive back position. The film shines light on his clear knack for hitting the opponent with the intention of jarring the ball loose. Flowers is smooth in his backpedal and transitions out of read steps very well. He takes proper angles against speedier ball carriers and has a high IQ for situational football. Currently, at four stars, Mr. Flowers is a throwback headhunter prototype that looks to continue his ascension up the rankings.
CONNER DUNPHY
WIDE RECEIVER •5’10” | 175 LBS I CLASS OF 2024 @ THE WOODLANDS | THE WOODLANDS, TX
Conner Dunphy is a stocky slot receiver with a great feel for creating separation for the catch and yards thereafter. Dunphy can be deemed a YAC specialist with his ability to hard plan and reverse course pre and post-reception. This makes him a matchup nightmare for any defensive back who is found lacking in fundamentals, athletic ability, or technique. Laziness will surely get you exposed and embarrassed by this caliber of an offensive weapon and if he gets past you with the ball you can forget about it. He will bump his head on the gold post due to his natural burst and speed. The word is that Dunphy may be finding work on both sides of the ball for his senior role. Let’s keep an eye out for an exciting approaching year as he pairs with newly transferred quarterback Rodrigo Bravo.
WIDE RECEIVER 6’1″ | 190 LBS I CLASS OF 2024 @ THE WOODLANDS | THE WOODLANDS, TX
Willis High School’s Imauree Holmes Imauree Holmes 6'0" | 175 lbs | ATH Willis | 2024 State TX is a big target at a listed 6’1 190. Holmes is more of a gadget player for the Wildkats with his ability to play inside, outside, running back, and defensive back. This is what has Holmes sitting with offers from TCU, UTSA, SHSU, and Colorado State. Versatility is his play style. It will be interesting to see what position Holmes calls home for the 2023-24 season. Some see Holmes transitioning into more of a defensive back in the future but Holmes’s play may make it hard for his future program to put him in a box. Stay tuned…
