This group of quarterbacks is stacked and is one of the most hyped up positions in 7v7 football rightfully so. Lets get rolling into more of my favorite QB1s from last weekend!
Tate Schafer Tate Schafer 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2024 State SD , QB, Sioux Falls Sharks/Sioux Falls Lincoln (SD) 2024 Twitter
I was super intrigued to find out that our QB1 in our 2024 South Dakota rankings Tate Schafer Tate Schafer 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Sioux Falls Lincoln | 2024 State SD was playing 7v7 last weekend at Back 2 Ballin as a first-timer in 7v7 football, and he certainly put on a clinic from what I watched on both days. Tate has always impressed me with his poise and mobility, but I came away with an even bigger fan after the weekend of how natural looking his touch ball looked live and in-person from all three levels of the football field. Tate also showed off well-balanced chemistry with his wide receivers, as if you were just a fan in the stands at the UNI Dome, you would have expected he played with his WRs for years. He’s picked up a handful of NSIC offers in recent months, and I would expect him to have many more by summer as we dive into camp season.
Kaden Herman, QB, GameFace/Waconia (MN) 2025 Twitter
Kaden showed off plenty of length in his throwing arm from what I watched last weekend at Back 2 Ballin. He had the accuracy as well to put the ball right in the bucket of his wide receiving core with solid levels of consistency throughout the tournament. He also showed off good mobility throwing from the run from the reps I got to watch. As just a sophomore, he has plenty of time to develop his throwing mechanics on shorter routes, as that is an upside to his game that will need more polish at the next-level. Excited to see how much this kid grows as he gets into the varsity ranks over at Waconia. Kaden also has some great next-level measurables at 6’2 185 pounds and a 3.8 GPA for those high academic college football programs.
Austin Scheuler, QB, Nebraska Red Wolves/Archbishop Bergan (NE) 2024 Twitter
I got my first look at scouting Austin last spring at Back 2 Ballin, and I like the growth I saw from year one into year two. He might not be the biggest QB in the world, but he’s developed nicely with a faster and smoother pace going thru his progressions around the football field. He also has a clutch gene in his skillsets you just can’t teach when under pressure, as he threw a game winning touchdown in the one game I watched in which the Red Wolves drove down the field and got one at the last possible second. He has also sped up his pace with his swift release he has in his plethora. You will get to meet one of his favorite WRs too, once I evaluate Part 2 of the WR session in the coming days, as that chemistry. Certainly if I was a college recruiter looking for a QB, he would be one I would go outside the measureables threshold for at the next-level and that is saying something this early in his HS football career.
Tyler Hatcher, QB, PVE/Sussex Hamilton (WI) 2024 Twitter
Another undersized yet blossoming quarterback from Back 2 Ballin was PVE QB Tyler Hatcher. Tyler showed off some consistent deep-ball arm strength and accuracy and from my eyes had zero issue slinging it on all three levels of the football field. He also passed my eye test with the poise he had in the pocket, as Tyler is a prospect that plays way over his measureables with demeanor and pocket presence he showed off this weekend. With the swiss-army knife skillsets Tyler has in his plethora, he should be a 2024 prospect to watch at the QB position for Sussex Hamilton next year.
Jett Each Jett Each 5'10" | 140 lbs | QB Ankeny | 2025 IA , QB, Apex 7v7/Ankeny (IA) 2025 Twitter
Jett is a QB prospect that I recall evaluating previously from a Level Up tryout last winter, and watching his skillsets grow from year one into year two showed some stock rising skillsets in my eyes, The first skillset that popped out to me with Jett was his poise throughout the weekend, as I loved watching his patience play thru his progressions as he showed out as a quarterback that was looking for the best possible throw versus taking the riskier throw in high traffic areas of the field. He’s also hit a growth spurt from my last evaluation and has grown by the looks of it in the weight room with his now 6’0 170 pound frame that was smaller from my last evaluation of him. He’s also gotten more smooth with his footwork in the pocket, and his QB play was a big reason why Apex 7v7 came out as the 18U champs last weekend. I certainly believe this young man’s skillsets will continue to grow this summer into camp season.
Bobby Bacon Bobby Bacon 6'0" | QB Iowa City | 2025 IA , QB, Fire Dragons/Iowa City High (IA) 2025 Twitter
Bobby showed off a high level of grit from what I watched last weekend at Back 2 Ballin for the Fire Dragons, not just with his demeanor, but with some of his throws he consistently made last weekend. I liked watching his release angles of his throws as he showed off some efficient ball fitting ability into some extremely tight spots where only his wide receiver could get it. I love watching the excitement level this kid plays across the board on every play and on tape, certainly a QB that loves the game of football. The 6’1 165 pound QB looks like a prospect that should be playing on Saturdays here in the near future, as I believe his best football is yet to come as he has well-versed mechanics, touch and other intangibles that fit into his game.
