Phillips is a pure football player with exceptional natural ability and instincts in all three phases. At 5’10” 185 lbs. he’s got great versatility to excel at multiple positions at the college level but has really shined at RB for Mount Si where he ran for 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging 7.5 yards per carry in 2022. He’s very fluid with the ball in his hands flashing excellent vision, awareness, and patience to see angles and allow the play to develop before he attacks. Once he reads his blocks, he presses the line quickly and accelerates through the LOS before he can use his creative and savvy open field skills to be elusive and make defenders miss. He’s a balanced runner with a low center of gravity to make quick explosive lateral cuts at all three levels. Shows he can run with power between the tackles or use his speed to turn the corner to the outside. Just had an impressive performance at the National Preps Showcase where he jumped a 127 in the broad jump. Still holding out for that first offer but has interest from a variety of D1 programs and should see one come his way before long as one of the top backs in the state.
Bonshe is a quick and explosive back with big play potential. At 5’10” 170 lbs. he’s got versatile athleticism that could translate well to multiple positions as he develops. Also has room to add weight without sacrificing speed or quickness. As a ball carrier, he’s got good lateral agility making quick cuts around defenders while accelerating out to break away. Flashes good field vision to find/create open running lanes combined with the balance and change of direction to attack them. Creative in the open field, he’s got a variety of moves (spin, jump cut, start/stop) to make defenders miss in space. Looking to build on a strong junior season where he ran for 625 yards on 77 carries with six touchdowns in a shared role. Should see a bump in recruiting if he continues on the same trajectory taking the majority of carries as a senior.
Highlights
At 6’2” 225 lbs. Jones is considered a jumbo athlete that is a playmaker on both sides of the ball at Mountlake Terrace. He’s a physical and bruising back that can overpower opponents at the POA but also shows good initial quickness and burst through the first level. Tough to tackle anywhere on the field with his combination of contact balance and leg drive but once he gets going downhill in space he’s a force. Great ability to pick up yards after contact putting pressure on the defense to rally to the ball and gang tackle. With his size and skillset he most likely projects as a LB at the college level where he can use his strength and speed to be a violent tackler and sideline to sideline playmaker. Even still, he finished the 2022 season with 1,450 yards and 20 touchdowns on 219 carries.
