There were almost 100 athletes present ready for a full day of football. The camp started with testing athletes’ 40-yard dash, vertical jump, and bench press. Afterward, the camp transitioned into positional drills and then 1 on 1 and 7-on-7. In this article, I’ll be covering standout skilled defensive athletes cornerbacks, and safeties.
#80 Trevor Short Trevor Short 6'3" | 205 lbs | ATH Louis Brandies | 2024 State TX Louis D. Brandeis High School CB Jr 6’0 165 lbs
One athlete that I could not keep my eye off is Trevor Short Trevor Short 6'3" | 205 lbs | ATH Louis Brandies | 2024 State TX . When I was watching Trey I kept uttering the words “Big Body Coverage.” Trey has sufficient height and adequate speed, but his main standout is his aggressiveness and coverage. In the 1 on 1 and 7 v 7 segment, I saw Trey in his natural habitat. Trey covered his wide receiver like white on rice every single rep. Trey allowed zero space between him and his man rarely letting any passes come through and even if the wide receiver did catch the pass Trey stopped them right in their tracks.
#84 Gabriel McFarland Alvin High School S JR 5’9
Gabriel McFarland had the best vertical jump at The VTOSPORTS Elite 100 Camp with a 34.9. Even though Gabriel wasn’t one of the tallest players at the camp he made up for it with his jumping prowess. Gabriel had great coverage and was able to contest a lot of passes because of his hops. Gabriel had an outstanding showcase at The VTOSPORTS Elite 100 Camp dominating in the test and 1 on 1 segments earning him a ticket to compete in the VTOSPORTS All-American camp in July.
#33 Jaylon Owens Clear Lake High School CB JR 5’9 150 lbs
Jaylon Owens was not only the fastest athlete at the VTOSPORTS Elite 100 camp but the fastest high school athlete I have ever seen in high school. Right from the start Jaylon ran his 40-yard dash and got an astounding 4.25 in all of my years I have never seen a 40-yard dash faster than 4.4 so seeing Jaylon was a refreshing surprise. Jaylon was able to use his speed properly in the individual skills and 1 on 1 segments. With his speed, none of the wide receivers could outrun him to get open for passes. Jacob was great at matching the wide receiver’s pace and even got in front of the pass to catch an interception. I will definitely keep an eye out for Jaylon Owens in his senior year at Clear Lake High School.
#15 Louis D. Brandeis High School Jacob Voss Jacob Voss 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Louis D. Brandeis | 2024 State TX Jr DB 6’1 175 lbs
The most aggressive athlete at the VTOSPORTS Elite 100 camp was a defensive back named Jacob Voss Jacob Voss 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Louis D. Brandeis | 2024 State TX . I noticed Jacob right away especially since I saw him last month at The Prep Redzone showcase in Austin, TX. Jacob from the start with his great testing scores and running drills in his position and his skills as a defensive back was exceptional kept his hips aligned, great footwork, and an aggressive play style he was able to provide lockdown defense. During the 1 on 1 portion not a single wide receiver could get past Jacob the whole time. At both camps, I saw Jacob Voss Jacob Voss 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Louis D. Brandeis | 2024 State TX participate in he got the MVP award for defensive backs.
