His suddenness helps him to discard coverage and open up for his quarterback early in his route. He’s dangerous on a whip-route and likes to vary route tempo to lull defenders to sleep. He attacks opponents’ leverage and uses head fakes and stutter steps to get them turning in circles. He shows a good feel for spacing and knows how to settle into the open zone.

When watching film on Davis, I quickly realized that he is a naturally gifted athlete. He is very explosive off the snap, which allows him to quickly stem his route. Davis is also very good at changing directions on a dime during his route and after the catch. He has a low center of gravity that he uses to his advantage by sinking his hips and separating from defenders.
Davis does a good job of keeping his front knee directly over the middle of his foot. This allows him to load up his backfoot and legs with pressure so he can explode off the snap. If he is lined up against soft coverage, he is good at accelerating quickly which forces the defense to close out on him. Then, he does a good job of manipulating their hips by using a double move during his route stem. Davis can also fake them out by simply using a head fake. Both moves force the DB to flip their hips, then Davis takes off in the other direction.

When watching Dowell play, he seems to have a very good understanding of the game and how to win in every scenario. Dowell is very good at diagnosing zone coverage and finding a seam for an easy reception. He is also good at identifying when his QB is under pressure and does a good job of working back toward them. Dowell also shows lots of mental toughness to consistently perform in clutch situations.
George has a variety of releases that allow him to get open at the top of his route stem. Against press coverage, he does a good job of manipulating the opposing DB’s hips off the snap. This allows him to gain separation while stemming his route. When lined up against soft coverage, he uses his acceleration to quickly stem his route. At the top of the route stem, he does a good job of sinking his hips and quickly changing direction.
