Last week, Prep Redzone highlighted quarterbacks from Eight-Man Schools. In this report on 8-Man Gems in Kansas four defensive backs who enjoy picking off quarterbacks and who led the state in interceptions are the focus. Two of the four players are unsigned and are looking for a chance to continue their football careers.
Kaleb Atkins, DB, 5’8”, 145, Hill City
Atkins unofficially led Kansas Eight-Man Programs with 10 interceptions in 2022. He also is a solid open-field tackler finishing with 88 total tackles. He is scheduled to participate in the 2023 8-Man All-Star Game in June. Atkins has yet to sign with a college program.
Colson Minks, DB, 5’8”, 155, Stafford
Minks is a two-sport athlete as he also plays basketball for Stafford. He had nine interceptions for Stafford in his senior season. He is quick and could contribute early on special teams for a college program. Minks also racked up 52 total tackles for the Trojans. Minks will look to continue his playing career with McPherson College.
Jett Vincent Jett Vincent 6'2" | 175 lbs | ATH Canton-Galva | 2023 State KS , DB, 6’3”, 180, Canton-Galva
Vincent could play on either side of the ball. On defense, he led Canton-Galva with eight interceptions. He also had 52 tackles. On the other side of the ball, he is a big target at wideout or tight end. He played all over the field for the Eagles in 2022. He caught 20 balls for 368 yards, rushed for 697 yards, and threw for 220 yards. Vincent has signed with Colorado State University.
Danny Guzman, DB, 5’8”, 170, Ness City
Guzman is tough and fast. He ended up with 88 tackles in his senior season playing free safety for Ness City. Guzman had seven interceptions and on offense accounted for 11 touchdowns combined passing and rushing.
