West Mesa quarterback Elijah Brody Elijah Brody 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB West Mesa | 2024 State NM and Centennial outside linebacker John Sierra John Sierra 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Centennial | 2024 State NM visited UNM this week and both went home knowing they’ll have the opportunity to play FBS football, if they choose to do so.
Both players spent their time on campus touring the facilities and talking to the coaches.
They spoke with Prep Redzone afterwards.
“The visit went very well,” said Brody, whose father Landrick played for the Lobos from 2000-2004 and is currently the West Mesa head coach. “The facilities were nice and the people I met were even better. Everyone I spoke to throughout the program were very welcoming and it was fun to meet people that were there when my father played.”
The 6-foot-3 Brody threw for 2,454 yards and 29 TD while rushing for 765 yards and 15 TD on 101 carries for the Mustangs last season. Overall, he amassed 3,219 total yards and accounted for 44 TD.
He told Prep Redzone that he is being recruited to play quarterback. The Lobos signed La Cueva QB Aidan Armenta Aidan Armenta 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB La Cueva | 2023 State NM in the 2023 class.
“We talked about the future of the program and how I could fit in,” Brody said. “I enjoyed meeting with all the coaches – strength and conditioning, position coaches, and coordinators.”
Brody has also been offered by New Mexico Highlands. He said several other schools have expressed interest.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Sierra has been a major contributor to the Centennial since he was a sophomore. In 2022, he had 90 tackles (51 solo), 22 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He’s a member of Centennial’s prestigious 1,000-pound weightlifting club.
He told Prep Redzone New Mexico that he’s being recruited by UNM to play outside linebacker.
“My initial reaction to the offer was shock and then excitement and joy,” Sierra said. “I’m truly blessed to receive the offer and this opportunity from UNM. My visit to UNM was amazing. All of the facilities were very nice and I enjoyed meeting the coaching staff and learning about the program.”
Sierra liked the fact the UNM coaches didn’t just talk about football.
“Most of the conversations with the UNM coaches were not only about what they offer in football, but also academically and how their program is run,” Sierra said.
Sierra has also been offered by Eastern New Mexico. New Mexico State has extended an invitation to attend the Aggies’ spring football game on April 20. Colorado State and Air Force have expressed interest.
